6pdr ammo boxes
« on: January 26, 2020, 06:18:14 PM »
I’ve got a Trent Miniatures ‘Revolutionary Wars’ British 6pdr cannon with ammo boxes for mounting on the wheel axle either side of the barrel. I assume these were removed when the gun was in action or were they permanent fixtures?

I always thought they stayed in place during action, but were rarely used, being a 'reserve' of ammo for use in emergencies in case the ammo ran low or the gun team was somehow separately from the caisson.

The Trent model has two boxes (of different shapes and sizes) and I was wondering which way round to glue them. I’ve not been able to find a clear picture.

I did find a picture of a split-trail 6pdr at Saratoga which shows boxes hinged on the inside (next to the barrel) https://pin.it/ri4nknffo72325
