Good Quality Solo *miniatures* Roleplay Game?
« on: January 29, 2020, 01:37:45 PM »
Hi,

I'm looking for a good quality ahem..... solo *miniatures* Roleplay Game?

The game has to be played ahem..... solo  :'(  :)

The game must include mini's! Otherwise what's the point  ??? :)

A dungeon crawl type affair would be fun.

What I will do first is buy a bunch of models, PC's, low level dungeon critters like gnolls, goblins, orcs, skellies drow etc

As would a Lord of the Rings type affair.....

No to internet/PC type games  :-[

Yes, Rangers is absolutely perfect and tons of fun. And if you have a decent Fantasy collection, you wouldn't need any miniatures. Just buy the PDF (or book) and have fun!

Another vote for Ranger of Shadow Deep -- Also, look for the 2nd Edition Rules for Frostgrave in June which will have solo options.

I used to..... sold them all many moons ago  :'(

I'll be starting from scratch but I love painting and a wee little side project to go with my historical Late Med stuff would be a delight :)

It also, of course harks back to bygone days  8)

I too have had great fun with Rangers of Shadow Deep. It's a great system with an evocative setting, but could easily be tweaked to fit any other very easily.

Thanks guys.

Is there any conceptual difference between the Rangers of Shadow Deep V.1 and the deluxe edition? What is the difference (I've seen neither)

It does sound like exactly the game you want!

The deluxe edition is a new printed edition, at first the game was only available on print on demand. There is a little rules update included, but I believe that can be gotten for free in pdf form.

Thanks, I think I'd rather have something tangible like the book.

I bought the PDF when it first came out and had it spiral bound at a local copyshop. Wasn't that expensive and works really well for gaming.
And for miniatures you can do whatever you like. You can make it in the style of Lord of the Rings, using Orcs as the Gnolls. Or a Dark Souls versions. Or Pathfinder. Or...
There are people who play the game in a Star Wars setting! Choose whatever miniature you want for a profile and just have fun. For me that's the coolest thing in the game. Joe offers a terrific rules set with great scenarios and leaves a lot for you to fill in however you like.

Thanks for that- it sounds like the perfect set of rules if it can easily be tailored to suit my needs.  8)

You might want to check out Spellslingers and Sellswords. It's a solo miniatures game with great rpg elements.

I know Rangers is popular, but I just don't get why it is particularly a solo or cooperative game.  The mechanics look like they would work for a competitive game just as well.
I think Sellswords and Spellslingers is more of a pure solo game but that is just my preference.
Rangers has a well thought out campaign and scenarios.
Both are fun.

Five Leagues from the Borderlands is a solo game, with miniatures, and a lot of an RPG element.
Use any minis you want, good mechanics, really fun campaign play.  It uses a small number of figures per side.
I really love the first version, I rank it in my top ten favorites.
I haven't tried the second edition.

Dungeon Scum is a dungeon delve game by the same company, and seems similar, though I have not played that one at all.
