Bash Street militia!!
« on: February 18, 2020, 03:44:40 AM »
So, I’ve had an idea - what if the Bash Street Kids from the Beano were all grown up in 1938 (say 9 or 10 in 1918)?

I’d like to gather together Class 2B of the Old Bash Streetians and let them loose.

Any ideas for suitable figures gratefully received (and I appreciate that if you aren’t familiar with these Beano characters this whole thread is wasted on you  ;D).

I quite like the idea of North Stars Tankie Bob for Fatty and Empresses ‘George’ (Charles Hawtree) for ‘Erbert and their Windy Chap with cap and Monocle for Cuthbert.

Their Weasly Wretches are a good source but a bit too weasly and wretched for most of them with the exception of Plug perhaps?

I’ve found a couple more:

Danny (in long coat and cap)
Smiffy (in steel helmet, complete with gormless expression!!)

What a great idea!
Perfect for some pulp style adventures, I reckon.

I look forward to seeing how this progresses.

The Beano was my life when I was young, this stuff is so cool, it would've been nice if they had similare clothes as in the comic though.

I’m going to paint them with a nod to the comic books - a red jacket here, yellow jumper there. A blue and black striped ‘something’ for Toots.

Be careful, ideas like this can get completely out of hand - as we found with our ‘Trumpton’ project last year!

I'm almost there.

I just need a matching pair of adult male and female characters to represent twins. The don't have to be a set or in any specific style as long as they look 'right' together.

My main difficulty seems to be finding female figures. I'm aware of Bad Squiddo but they're a bit too big for Footsore, Warlord, Empress et al.

Cool idea. I look forward to seeing how you paint these up when you get the figures.

Can't you use Mark Copplestone's gangster series ? For instance GN 7 - Gun molls and GN 4 - Sharpshootin' Hillbillies (although only one of them is female). And I wouldn't worry about scale differences - the more figures you use, the less anyone will notice... (;-)).

Great call. She has loads of potential - now for a matching chap that looks a bit more Dorset than Chicago!
