Disney's Jungle Cruise looks very 'pulpy'.

Looks pretty corny and I'm not a big fan of the actor but I'm not against him neither - but it also looks like a lot of fun so added to the list.  And I like Emily Blunt.  Clearly - very clearly - inspired by the Jungle Cruise ride.  Well, duh, "the back side of water"!  :D

Looks like fun but, as with just about all films made this century, I can’t make out what the hell theyre saying >:( >:( >:( . I wish there were subtitles on films shown in cinemas but I suppose the majority of viewers would find that distracting.

I have the same problem.  The current squad of directors & producers seem to have become addicted to the "Mumble School of dialogue" and the compound this by superimposing annoying music.  Both of which, I suppose, are designed to hide poor scripts and terrible characterisation.  That said the scenery looks good and when it appears on TV, Netflix, DVD I'll probably watch it with subtitles switched on.

Seconded on the noise thing. I have excellent hearing, but the combination of mumbling actors with superimposed music, and impenetrable accents; 'mockney' and 'boston' being the two worst, I need subtitles.

Not just me on the incomprehensible dialogue, then.  :)

As mentioned above, at least there should be a tv version which will give us the joy of subtitles. So one to look out for - thanks for the heads-up.

As an amateur California movie maker with some knowledge of the pros, I can tell you the hardest piece of talent to find is a good soundman (or woman).  It is a rare skill and I think the issue has been ongoing for a good decade or more.  Luckily here locally - hundreds of miles north of Hollywood - we have a spectacular and highly in demand soundman but he is no spring chicken.  But he is a demon for perfection and I am so thankful to have been able to use his services on some of my projects.

Boggles my mind why such an important skill has been allowed to go fallow in an industry where the specific talent is critical to a well made movie.  My best guess is because Hollywood makes movies for an international audience and most people watching are likely either hearing dubbed dialogue or reading subtitles.  Nothing else makes any sense.  But it's the shits for English speaking (and hearing) audiences.

cue old man shouts at cloud memes

Also - for sure, the trailer looks like a fun pulp game waiting to happen, where the players can adjust their sound, dialogue, acting skills, miniature scale, griping, etc. to their own taste.

If the whole movie looks this good, I'll watch it just for the visuals.  I believe my first ride on the Disney Jungle Cruise was in 1955 when the park opened.  As an annual pass holder for many years, I have been on the Jungle Cruise dozens of times, and it remains my favorite ride in the park.  What I have never understood is why Disney's marketing department, which marketed the parking lot tram, had never marketed a toy Jungle Cruise boat... in any scale.

As someone also suffering from easily confused hearing (if there's background noise, speech and dialogue is incomprehensible), ask your theatre management about accessibility options.

Also, I don't thin k that the sound editing profession's been let to slide, just that ALL THE NOIZE is a cheap and easy way for directors to try to maximize the "impact" of the movie. When you can't get more involvement from a wooden script, more empathy from wooden performances, or interest from nonsensical action sequences, you can amp up response levels by blasting the customers in their seats...

One of my (many) objections to the movie "Sense and Sensibility and Zombies" was the fact that every punch that landed in the martial arts sequences sounded like someone slamming a sledgehammer into a sack of concrete. The whole film was asinine, but the sound design was just lazy and overblown...

Is that the hotly awaited sequel to Pride & Prejudice & Zombies that you've had a sneak preview of? -- can't wait to see it myself  ;) ;) ;)

isn't part of the sound thing that you're often (these days) listening to audio mixed for 5:1 (at least), whereas a lot of us (on pcs and even TVs) still persist with stereo?

I remember a couple of serials from a few yrs back where that was identified as a problem.
