Astronomy lab
« on: March 25, 2020, 07:08:31 PM »
As we are still in nominal lockdown I am continuing on with the Frostgrave builds.  The astronomy lab starts with a zodiac circle that will have to be filled in.  Cut out of stencil paper.

Next is the mechanical solar system.  This was made of clock gears and some bits.

Together they will fill either a wall or a floor.  I have not decided which.

So this will turn into a little bit of a project.  Decided to make it a tower and have the mechanical solar system mounted high up on a wall.  I am thinking either the second or third floor of a tower with lots of buttressing to add texture to the surface.
The solar system will be mounted on this wall.

The opposite wall will have an adjustable looking apparatus mounted on it.

Stairs will be mounted to the back of one of these two walls.  The other two will have windows.

Finished the buttressing.

Dry fitted with the clockwork solar system.

So the majority of construction is now done.  Plenty of interior and exterior details are still required but the building is taking shape.  The interior stairwells are done in an open double helix and still need floors at each level.  Big decisions left are for the roof.  I am planning on a telescope of some kind but have not settled on a design yet.

Last night I did some work on the reverse face of the building.  The plan was to make it look like there are two interlocked rotating disks.  The rest is bits and pieces added for detail.

This project looks amazing. :o  You must have great powers of perseverance.
It reminds me of the astronomical clock in Prague (only more interesting - the clock in Prague is meant to be the second most disappointing attraction in Europe).

Keepup the good work.

That was part of my inspiration.  Good catch.
