Filibustering during the Lockdown
«
on:
March 27, 2020, 06:16:56 PM »
As everybody needs a project in this strange new normal I started mine on Monday. I'm building up both sides of a game to play a Filibustering expedition into Mexico. So far this week I've finished 24 Filibusters and 8 Mexican regulares.
More pics and blethering on the blog.

You have me intriqued. I want to know more about this whole Filibustering epoch of history - either I'm ignorant of it or know it by some other name.
Really nice looking figures.

Now that I know what it is, I am less intrigued. Who wants to recreate something as shameful as trying to expand slavery? Okay, maybe that wasn't the only motive but, well, yuck. Good luck, I guess.

You're right, it wasn't the only motivation and was almost never the primary one. I tend to think of them as piss poor attempts at recreating the Texas war of independence.

This weeks efforts result in another two groups of Mexican Regulares, a ruined building and a Leader for the Filibusters.
More photos and information on the blog.

Neat project. I’ve long been fascinated by William Walker and his exploits.

I had no idea that was a thing. Interesting history to be sure. I wonder what impact the filibusters may have had on the decisions of the Confederate leadership, beyond the military experience? It seems hard to imagine these things occurred in a vacuum.

Tibson,
There are some theories out there. Some think that if Walker had been successful in Nicaragua, that the Civil War may not have happened. Not entirely sure why, but I have definitely read that.

This lockdown has it's uses although the thought of going back to work without having done a load more figures has me in a bit of a panic. Still I've gotten a load more done. 3 more groups of Filibuster infantry and a Group of Mexican militia.
Hope you are all staying safe. Cheers

Are you using the Foundry line of figures for this?

Most of the figures are Foundry but with some Empress figures in there as well. I've bought some Boothill figures to use as Presidials as well.
