The Red Rose - The coldness of the King
« on: April 04, 2020, 04:23:13 PM »
I have been thinking of producing a Wars of the Roses Lancastrian army ever since the Perry's brought out their wonderful plastic figures and I found the Perfect Captain's wargames rules.  I had a few stashed figures and occasionally put paint to a few of them but the project never really got off the ground.

However that all changed when my regular wargames opponent was taken up with the bug.  So I got out the paintbrush and decided to get stuck in.  After painting a few more I realised that I could not paint heraldry for toffee so I had a few figures comissioned by Dez.  He produces the most wonderful heraldry, which you will see.

So after about 5 years of gestation, here is my first Lancastrian contingent. Apologies for the poor photos.

And here in a better setting.

And a close up showing Dez's work on Thomas Courtney, 5th Earl of Devon.  Flags by Pete's Flags and all figures by Perry, a mix of plastics and metals.

The are based for the Perfect Captain's rules with 3 figures to a 40mm by 40mm base, each base depicting a typical weapon mix.  I have decided that each retinue for a minor noble will be 4 stands each with 2 men at arms bases and two archer bases.  Peers and important nobles will have a double retinue.

I have about 8-12 retinues planned with a whole load of Commsion of Array troops, whilst my partner is collecting Yorkist forces.

They look pretty good to me!  :-*

Sounds like you have a lot of painting to do...  ;)

OTOH, it is always nice to have a mate to paint the opposing force so you both can the lads on the table quite quickly and start bashing each other. Wat!  :)

Thanks very much for the kind comments but I have to stress that the Heraldry on the leader is painted by Dez. The rest are mine.

Next up is Robert, Lord Hungerford. Perry's plastics with flags by Freezywater.
