I've just finished reading Dr Sam Willis' naval history of the American War of Independence.

I found this book a really interesting and well thought through history covering, as it does, a very complicated set of circumstances and events that characterised the war at sea, but drawing them together into a very compelling and cohesive account that showed how the projection of sea power influenced the outcome in more ways that those commonly quoted as being the major events.

Not only that, but the read brought back memories of a very nice time visiting the States back in 1988, that chimed well with a certain chapter.

If you would like to see my thoughts about this book then just follow the link to JJ's

Often it is better to remain silent and let people think you are stupid than to open your mouth and remove all possible doubt.
