Anyone tried ECW To Defy a King wargame?
« on: September 20, 2023, 03:07:39 PM »
Also, anybody any idea where these rules are on sale these days or not very a successful set of rules?

Looking to get Warlord Epic Push of Pike and scouting around for rules as don't fancy the Warlord rules but do like the figures :)

Andy, I recall these being released and seeing them at shows but haven't seen or heard anything about them for many years. I use Simon Miller's "For King and Parliament" which is the ECW variant of his "To the Strongest" grid-based ancient rules.  I game in 28mm but if starting afresh now I would almost certainly use the Warlord plastics as you can create decent sized units for a really visual effect.

A plus 1 on FKaP.

We game it in 10mm, with 120mm unit frontages, works great, nice blocks of figures for units.

I have them and have played a couple of games. They are not bad, but have some grey areas and odd features. Melees go on for ages, which apparently is what the author intended, but doesn’t match many historical accounts. I asked the author about several things which I found unclear, and his response was “Well, you have certainly found lots of things not covered by the rules”, but he didn’t actually address any of them.
So a bit mixed; you would be welcome to my copy for the cost of postage; maybe you will find them better than I did.
These days I use “For King and Parliament”
