Monsters exist - A Dust 1947 Battle Report
« on: May 05, 2020, 09:52:01 AM »
Night is about to fall on a small clearing in a forest near the Belgian town of Bouillon and the small detachment of American troops under the command of Sergeant Major Rosie Donovan is preparing to resist until the last man (... and woman) from the onslaught of the "special" forces from the Axis Blutkreuz faction.

No one had prepared them for the sight of those reanimated corpses pouncing on them at terrifying speed, led by a wobbly but menacing soldier equipped with a gigantic circular saw.

Perhaps it was the shock of that vision that prevented Rosie's best units from acting immediately: her own Rangers command squad, but the fact is, it seems they were unable to react in time ...

... and the same thing happened to Rosie's squad. Be that as it may, the zombies were pouncing on the American soldiers and nobody seemed to react ...

... and as a result both forces came into contact.

It seems that only the assault section managed to act in time and due to the remains found later they had to put in action the demolition charges they were equipped.

But it was not enough to stop the horde of animated corpses that decimated the assault unit.

The inaction of the rest of their companions caused that the soldiers were not aware of a new assault on their rear. A vision equal to or more supernatural than the previous one, a legend that they had heard of but that was horrifying reality before their eyes ...

The gigantic gorillas genetically engineered by Axis scientists took to the charge, led by one of their, especially large species who seemed to "lead" that raging pack. Like a storm they pounced on the small barricade that the Americans had erected ...

The armored Rangers had not been trained for close combat and among them only Sergeant York must have been able to respond to the fury of the ruthless and devastating blows of those gigantic apes.

But he was clearly unable to avoid the inevitable ...

After the initial hesitation Rosie ordered her men to take down the zombies first ...

... and a raging storm of shells and grenades struck them, leaving the unit on the brink of elimination.

But a sinister presence enters the scene. A slim, trembling figure that would have seemed harmless had it not been for the terrifying aura that surrounded him and the menacing appearance of his face concealed under a gas mask and especially for the ominous glow that comes from the strange object that occupies the place where his left hand once was ...
A Totenmaister!

Making use of the singular powers that the sinister mechanism grants him, the reclining corpses of the zombies return to their non-lives between convulsions and surely before the terrified gaze of the American soldiers ...

... and pounce on them with renewed fury ...

... annihilating the last resistance that the terrified soldiers try to offer.

But perhaps none of this happened ... or maybe yes, who knows?

In truth we only have an old photo saved in the files of the OSS. A classified image showing the terribly mutilated corpses of an infantry detachment on the frozen ground, dated in the winter of 1947 and located in the Ardennes, near the town of Bouillon ...

The effects are a great touch that I hadn't thought of before. Idea stolen!! :D

But seriously, that's a great write-up, with some really superb miniatures. Tempting me to get out my half-finished Dust figs and, well, dust them off...
Operating from an abandoned US spy base somewhere in the Australian outback, Miniature Martin produces games and scale miniatures set in parallel worlds, past and future. He is NOT trying to take over the Earth. This time.
