Alexander Goes East
« on: May 08, 2020, 01:39:28 PM »
A couple of years ago, a friend and I planned out a hypothetical what if campaign of Alexander heading  east into China - it led to a feature in Miniature Wargames and a game at SALUTE last year. In case anyone is interested here are some of the in game shots, . Afraid that due to a few too many knocks to the head  my memory is not that great so I have no recollection of the  games

Wonderful stuff George  :-* :-* :-*

So, did Alexander crush all before him or did the wily Chinese out ruse him? (Some old WAB terminology in there :) )

Thanks for the idea.  I might dust off my "Warring States" army to fight my newly painted Seleucids . Your game reminds me of an article I read many years ago postulating a Roman vs Han Chinese conflict following Trajans invasion of Parthia. Another interesting "what if".

Makes me ruminate about the rules ramifications... what happens when a scythed chariot hits a Zhou chariot? (Talk amongst yourselves).

Very nice presentation and I bet some pretty nice games commence- although I shudder to think what the crossbows do to the unfortunate Macedonian cavalry and elephants.

Reminds me of a game we put on at Salute last year Pilum or Pike. A who would win if Rome at it's height took on Alexander. It was the Pike of Alexander

If it isn't enjoyable, it isn't gaming!

Hi Phil

I recall that game. I wandered over and chatted with someone at the table about  the rules,  I recall it had lots of 28mm ancients figures on the table which is always a good thing

my friend and I ,  never finished our game- we had lots of interest and were fielding so many questions from the punters that we managed to get through 2 turns.

Miniatures Wargames issue 432 April 2019 - featured an article on the game and the counterfactual scenario in which Alexander does not die in Babylon but instead chases Chandragupta to China

Here's photo of the warring states army- a real mix of figures with some Curteys  and selections from older ranges
