Hi

Does anyone know how big Mexican infantry standards were in 1836?

Thanks

My best guess is that as the army was based on the French model they followed the French pattern. Most armies of the post Napoleonic period followed Napoleonic patterns well into the 1860s even more exotic ones such as those in South America, and in Asia the Sikhs and Japanese.

Seems like a very sensible guess. Must admit I haven’t seen any evidence to the contrary.

The Bullock Musuem has a number of them on the website:
https://www.thestoryoftexas.com/discover/artifacts/toluca-battalion-mexican-tricolor-battle-flag

About 140 cm by 140 cm but there seem to be smaller ones, too.
There seems to be something wrong with our bloody ships today...turn two points to port.

As both a military historian and a Museum professional it is good to see these very evocative artefacts still around to interest and inspire people from such a turbulent period of history.

Thanks a lot.

It would appear that there was no set size in Mexican flags but I have gone for one that looks about right.

Hardest part is that the Mexican national standard is shown as normal 'flag' but the military standards where more 'square' - but I've managed to giggle one around on the computer.
