Syrian Streetfighter
« on: January 30, 2021, 05:08:42 PM »
I finally got an airbrush before Corona-lockdown. This is my first try to paint a tank with it.

A Empress T-72 with scratch built ERA bricks. Painted up in Syrian Arab Army colours.

Hope you like...

Wow, very nice.
May I ask, what did you use to make the bricks?

Great work, a nice balance between realistic colours and the slightly bolder look that befits gaming models.

One pointer: You can add more than a single attachment to each post, up to 8, of up to 4MB in total. Click the "more attachments" link beneath the attachment button to add, then select the attachment as before.

Thanks for the replies... Much appreciated.

The ERA bricks are just plastic strips cut into small pieces. They are a little out of scale but looks okay.

I am glad that no one have noticed (a least no one has commented) on the fact that I have glued the tracks on the wrong way. I noticed it right after the glue had cured. The drive wheel should be at the back since the T-72 has a rear engine.

Definitely not a subject you see touched on much, and certainly not one often done so well. Needs more random plastic bottles, cardboard boxes, clothing and other junk to be setting appropriate though. ;)

ERA bricks are a complete pain. I made a mould for mass producing them, but damn, even one tank's worth of bricks takes multiple runs. I have a particular tank based IFV which must have over a hundred of the damn things on it. :(

Thanks for the replies :)

Originally the plan was only to try out my new airbrush painting a tank. I got inspired by a 1:72 T-72 tank model I found online and decided to paint it in Syrian army colours. Then I thought I would make a ruined building to serve as an appropriate background for taking pictures of the tank.
Things kind of spiraled from there... The ruined building have more than 250 cinderblocks cast in resin plaster. I now plan to make a entire game board representing a generic middle eastern war zone. And yes that calls for a lot more waterbottles, trash and random debris scattered all around.

Very nice work.

Someone needs to produce ERA bricks, the question is would they be economical (and they would need to be usable off the sprue)?
