Cow miniatures
« on: July 28, 2009, 10:01:05 AM »
Hey

Does anyone know what the cheapest 28mm cows would be?

I have found Irregular miniature's ones at £1.75 for 2. I am looking to get about 20 of them!

Mega Miniatures are £6.something for 4 which is quite expensive really, but they are nice models. I am totally unsure of what the Irregular ones look like (pretty irregular I should imagine).

If anyone has any pics of the irregular ones, I would be very grateful.  :)

Hi Rob,
Dixon Miniatures do cows in their old west range - not sure what they charge though, got mine as a present. I would imagine that Irregulars are the cheapest - I've got some of their 15mm cattle, good minis if a little "wooden" so I'd think the 25mm versions will be quite similar.

Warlord Games have just released "dead livestock" 2 deceased cows and a horse in resin for £5. Not sure that helps much - you never know when you might need a dead cow!

I'll have a quick ganders at the Dixon ones. I imagine they are just as bad as irregular, but cost more though.

Thats the general consensus.

If you're wanting a lot of them for next to nothing, check out your local toyshops and pound shops. They often have a big tub of generic "farm" animals for a couple of quid a throw. Some of the animals are pretty random scales (unless you have a game where a pig bigger than a tractor would be useful) but you should be able to pick a few up fairly reasonably.

One of the guys on the Wild West board showed a load of toys he painted for his "on the cheap" western town - they looked bloody ace when he'd finished.

I picked up some English cattle from Hovels which are rather tasty, for more Wild West or wilder types Vendel do a long horns and Outpost do some nice Border Cattle

The Pegasus cattle are very nicely done, although the plastic may be a little tricky (I had no problem painting it, but it´s a kind of "plastic toy soldier plastic").

Unfortunately, I don´t have any pics in a "normal" mode, since I used them for two-headed mutant cattle.

i brought a bunch off ebay of varying sizes as a job lot, i think its the kind of pack of cows you can pick up in a toy shop quite cheap.

Try Ertl farm sets, they can be had on eBay quite cheaply. I saw them in packages the other day at TSC (A farm, home hardware chain) in Canada. In the past, I purchased several of the Longhorn Cattle sets, and they are perfect in size for 28mm gaming. I washed them really well, and re-painted them. I will eventually get some pictures posted on my new website and blog postings.

Just put a Hawaiian tee-shirt on it, and you're good to go lol. Okay, yeah. That was a little tad cruel... ::)

I forgot after my website got hacked to reupload the pegaus 1/48 and 20mm building sets.

I've quickly thrown up a couple old pics of the 1/48 farm set. The main issue with the set is that it does not provide enough of any one animal type to be awesome, too many types of animals perhaps or as the box is mostly empty space, not enough sprues in the box. The figures themselves are reasonably nice. The comparison figue is a 28mm Countess Sandra figure from Eureka.
