This could be an interesting way of doing horses, heavy oil washes and then wiped away the oil using a q-tip( ear bud) to create contrasts

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znrCqYFFl9Q

I tend to avoid oils per say. I've got too many memories from Uni in being almost permanently covered in the stuff! I'm allergic to white spirit too- not too badly but it was bad enough for me to wear surgical gloves when using oil paints  lol.

If I'm doing 'quick' horses prefer to put down a base coat, dry brush with three successive lighter layers when wash the hell out of the model.

These were done in that way:

those Knights Hospitaller ( I think) look really effective. I only use drybrushing for the hair and tails. Here's another one I did. I tried to simplify the flesh but not keen on the result, so I'll stick to the long winded process.

Dunno...

They look nice though.

I will say, I'm glad to see folks painting horses with asymmetrical markings on the legs. It is fairly rare, for example, to have a horse with all four legs sporting white socks. Black, is another thing. Lots of horses have black on all four legs.

Atheling, its 12 finished so far. I started the project shortly after the lockdown was announced. I have been painting slowly over that period while working from home.
Ive got 2 horse archers, 2 light horse , 2 mounted characters and 2 characters on foot including the Khaleesa to do

I'd mixed up the flresh  recipes a bity.  The darker tones are built up over Vallejo model colour Hull red with lighter layers bbuilt up by Vallejo game colour heavy skintone  building up to pure heavy skintone.

Latest Dothraki. Struggled a bit with the photography, the horse looks better on the table than in this shot

Khal Drogo. This guy has severed heads on his horse and carries two in his right hand. a real head hunter

I was dissapointed with the way the face turned out.  Just 2 Dothraki horse left and then Jorrah Mormont, the question with Mormont is whether to have him in the heraldry of house Mormont, a field vert, bear sable. or , to assume that as he fled in disgrace he no longer wears his heraldry.

He looks cool!

In the books Jorah wears his tunic with his heraldy in exile. I love the heraldy of the series, so I vote for that, but a disgraced Jorah would be cool as well :-)
