Recommend postage options UK to Australia?
« on: June 27, 2020, 07:25:54 AM »
Can anyone give me any pointers for cost effective postage to Australia?
Quite a few years ago I recall posting in multiple parcels of under 2k to keep costs down.
I’m not sure if this is still cost effective?
It’s a big army so will probably weigh more than 2k.
Insurance would need to be in the region of £350?

Thanks

Only advice I can give is that you'll finish up feeling you've been charged by a wounded Rhino!
I always include UK postage in with the price of stuff I'm selling. Every now and then a pm will arrive inquiring how much postage to Canada/Australia, I always say a tenner in real money...
I take it to the postie and get charged fifteen quid in real money!
I'll be interested to see how you get on.

I don’t think it’s going to happen now.
But I asked my local PO guy this morning.
Looks like the key is to keep it under 2k
Better to send two 2k parcels than one 4k parcel.
The example I got, tracked and traced, insurance up to £300
Two parcels up to 2k each = £50 total
One parcel at 4k = £100

Not cheap

Always the problem we face here in the Colonies and from the USA to Oz is even worse for most producers.

Have a look at parcelmonkey.co.uk, it gives comparisons for different carriers at a lower rate than you and I might get normally.

Hi, I've just sent a parcel to Oz using Royal Mail.  It weighed under 1kg and cost £23. The Royal Mail website seems to indicate that a 2kg parcel insured up to £250 would be about £25. I think the key is to keep it in the "small parcel" size. I managed to fit close to 100 28mm figures into a "small parcel".

Good luck. I've had exactly this same problem when an Aussie bought a massive ( and heavy) 15mm FoW army off me on E-Bay, and didn't realise the quoted £15 P&P was only for UK. I think it cost him nearly £70!
