Flock manufacturers?
« on: July 01, 2020, 09:29:26 PM »
I'm looking for some flock for my current project and the Woodland Scenics colors are very drab. Looking for something a little more vibrant. I know GF9 and Scenic Explress also do flock but are there any other manufacturers I may be missing? Or are those pretty much my choices?

It's not too hard to make your own, and quite fun.

Noch is another.  https://shop.noch.com/.  You can also highlight darker flock with acrylic paints to lighten it up and give variation in color.

I find that if I mix flocks the variety gives a more believable 'green'.
My present tub contains (well when I originally filled it) 3 packs of 'summer',
2 packs of 'spring' & one of 'autumn'.
Sometimes, as previously suggested, I dry-brush. That might be with
a yellow or a very light brown.

If you want a good range of colour for mixing and matching then try Scenic Express' SuperLeaf (link). You can get it in the standard 16oz shaker, a 24oz EcoPak (paper bag) and a 1 gallon tub ( :o). It is a US company though so perhaps you can find a UK/Euro supplier.

It is the primary leaf product I used on these hedges (although I went with dull natural tones :D).

You could also make your own using sawdust and acrylic paint.  I used it to make the flocking for these:

There are video how to's out there on you tube.
Picked up the saw dust for free from a local DIY stores wood cutting table.
