Friday 27th November Afternoon:
Well had a little free time over at my mate's so finished off the board and built the mall front.

Board edges:

I wanted to have that landscaped look that you get at shopping centres so went for a grass paving combo:

(The idea is to put trees on the grass, using Geronimo's new recessed DS resin bases, great for solid based figures but also great for that tree planted with a stone edging around it on the street or in a landscaped area).

I also managed to finish the paving where the mall entrance was to go:

All looking good, bags of time so onto the mall:

Mall Entrance:

Armed with my trusty metal ruler, 5mm black foamcore, three sheets of mall exterior from the worldworks mega mayhem mall pack I set to work.

First things first, I cut out the mall sections with a scapel and worked out the overall shape for the board, (added folds and angles as appropriate):

From the template layout I then went about cutting the foamcore to size, (basically aiming to create a solid structure, representing Entrance 3 of the Lion's Mall Shopping Centre.

Each piece was cut and then stuck to the card facade, right angles were pinned square and the whole piece was built as a series of solid compartments to ensure strength.

Once complete, (sans roof at present but this will be completed at a later stage):

Noted that it looked great, but there were two big white squares were cardboard doors were to go which looked a little naf....

So, taking inspiration from game two out came the plasticard and plasti-rod and tada!

Shutters:

(The lion statues only arrived Wed night so no time to paint before use).

Really please with the way this has come out. Great entrance and hints at the contents of the next board for me to work on! ;)

Also considering putting a diner in to the right of the entrance (as you're looking at it) Think that would look quite groovy. Got a cash machine I need to dig out that will need mounting to the wall too!

Anyway enjoy.

The Commander

Game Three report tomorrow.

Fantastic. Just like everything else Commander Vyper. I'm in awe that you basically created the shopping mall at your friends house before the game!

Can't wait to tune in tomorrow  :D

Cheers

Well, you've raised the bar again with this board. Love the lion idea!

I'm really looking forward to seeing how you tackle the inside of the mall. A challenging build, but potentially spectacular results  :D

Unless I've got it wrong and the "hints" are in fact the lions and thatyou are going to do a zombie zoo next.....

 lol lol

Well as the centre's called the Lion's Mall so probably not....but it's an idea. ;)

Looking at the picture again you can see the shutters are still loose.

The shutters aren't going to be stuck on as I'll be doing wrecked sections and some glass doors, (one set normal, one set damaged with different backgrounds too).

"That's the last of the zeds that followed us in here - good idea of yours to use the zoo to hole up in."

"Wait a minute, what's that in the shadows?"

"Its ok, its just one of the giraffes...bet you're glad we didn't pick the lion enclosure...heh....heh..."

"...umm..."

'Wait, what's that in the shadows?' - hilarious.

But no, I agree with the Commander - no zoos. The Shopping Center/Mall is looking fantastic, and that's a beautiful touch with the lion statues outside. The devil's in the details... (whereas the giraffe is in the shadows...)

Cheers mate,

The obvious play on words 'Lion's Mall' (Maul) can about with Ian over at Fenris Games doing lion statues, that and some custom laser cut signs he did for me last weekend sealed the deal, (more on that later ;)).

The Commander.

I will finally get round to posting up the Game three update from a few months back. Plus a few things in the pipeline starting with spawning points:

Manhole:

Blackcat bases ghoul scenery piece, didn't like the ghoul's head so off it came and swopped it for a westwind zed head.

Added some GS for hair and what not and currently undercoated ready for paint.

Third and fourth hummer's are prepped and ready for paint too, these are turtlebacks and they're going to be in a desert camo rather than my usual green. Loaded up for 'up country' missions too. Then onto my Abrahams too.

Also bought Zombies: a record of the year of infection, the Zombie survival guide: graphic novel and Walking dead TP 11 so kinda resparked my love of all things undead again.

Keep you posted.

Great stuff Commander. How often do you get to play with this board? Once a month?
