Another ACW Skirmish 1863 AAR
« on: July 08, 2020, 02:17:08 PM »
For our first get together with relaxed Covid19 restrictions was a 61-65 skirmish game, it was the same scenario I played solo during the Covid19 Lock Down!

It was a bit of a deja veux moment for me! I took up command of the Southerners with Morris advising and Dave and Fred (previously known as George) took control of the Northerners!

The plans - The Confederate plan was to turn the Union right and descend on the bridge from 2 directions, 6 of their units were deployed to their centre and right and 2 units were placed on the left. The Union plan was to advance on a broad front and 2 of their 8 units were to launch a right hook to turn the Southerners flank and divert their forces from the bridge.

During the game both sides attempted to turn the others left flank! The Southerners concentrated more forces on their flank effort while the Union spread themselves evenly across the line using only a small force to turn the Confederates line. In the centre due to their numbers the Southerners slowly ground down the Union Zouaves facing them. This in conjuncture with their aggressive right flank move and refusing their left won the day!

The full AAR with lots of pictures and battle details is on the TSOG blog...

Some pictures from the AAR...

Confederate skirmishers on the bridge pour hot fire into the Union Zouaves...

Crashing volleys were unleashed on the Yankees across the stream by Rebels, the silver disks denote casualties...

Union Sergeant Albert Spears waving the Company Guidon rallies his men and spurs them into action!

On the Union left Zouaves got into close combat with the Confederates and they were soundly defeated! They retired back into the cornfields...

A final lunge by the Yankee flank attack drops short of the Confederate line!

A final cheer from the Southern Commander as he sees the Yankees break!

Cheers!
