How do Warlord Games Celts compare to Crusader's?
« on: July 09, 2020, 08:37:54 PM »
Hi,
How well do the Warlord Games plastic and metal Celts match with Crusader Miniatures metal Celts?
I have a box of plastic Warlord Celts which I might use as the basis for an Infamy! warband and am thinking of using the Crusader noble warriors and chariots with them.
Many thanks and all the best,
George.

Crusader chariots are the same size but they're mdf by Sarissa Precision. The chariot horses are the same as regular Crusader horses so are huge compared to Warlord Games horses.
The figures are similar in size, the main difference being that most of Crusader's range are standing while most of the Warlord Games plastics are more active.
One of the Crusader chariot warriors has no helmet, he's carrying it under his arm, he makes a great foot commander and looks great with the noble infantry as he's slightly taller than them. You could even swap him out for one of the plastics in the bending over pose.

If you like the Crusader Celts and Mark Sims sculpts you ought to check out the work he did for A&A Miniatures (still available):

A&A Gallic and Ligurian Celts:
https://www.aandaminiatures.co.uk/categories/?c=5

The A&A stuff could to with more spears and less swords but the sculpts are still excellent and wouldn't take much conversion work to add the odd spear.

EDIT: A few pics added to tempt you  ;)

I’ve got both in my army (no chariots though), so I can show you a pic of them in a unit together:

Front rank from left to right: plastic Warlord model in mail, metal Warlord from the line breaker blister pack, metal crusader noble, metal crusader command, plastic warlord.
The guys behind are largely warlord plastics with one crusader Celt in there (the ginger guy guy to the left).

I think they fit well on multi-bases like this.

My armies:
- Henry VIII's army (WIP) 15mm
- Ancient Germans (28mm)
- Ancient Belgae (Gauls with German allies) (28mm)
- Massilian Greeks (Greeks and Gallic mercenaries/subjects) (28mm)
- A few EI Romans (28mm)
- Handful of WW2 British (15mm)
- A load of old 1993-1999ish Warhammer Orcs and Goblins

Hi,
Many thanks to everyone for their hellpful replies.  The photo in particular gives me just the information I need.
I also didn't know about the A and A celts and that they have the same sculptor as the Crusader celts so they give me some extra options.
All the best,
George.

Found another comparative shot: my warband of nobles, the left stand are all Warlord plastics, the right two are Crusader from the noble our command packs. Behind them you can see more Warlord plastics.

As someone else said, the warlord plastics all come out very dynamic, either rushing forward, showboating or ducking actively, while the Crusader models are either standing or advancing in more controlled fashion.
