How very timely!  I found the Barbarians series (about the Teutoburg massacre) on Netflix last night whilst putting paint to my first couple of minis.

Before anyone picks up on it, yes, the skin could be better.  But I have lots of these to paint, and I’m reasonably happy with the dirty look!   ;)

I may make this fella my leader.

Very nice. Were the transfers difficult?

The LBM transfers were easier than I thought.  The biggest issue is having to cut out all the boss/spines, then cutting them out of the sheet.  The simple round bosses are already hole punched.

Once cut out, they are easy to apply though.   Any exposed shield is easily filled with a slightly darker shade than the transfer edge.  I then have a little Agrax wash around the spine / boss which nicely melds it in.  Definitely worth getting the shield right as it detracts from the mini! Lol

Well you certainly seemed to have mastered
transfers on shields.

Good job really…..

Looking very good. Got to admire your output, and this just a distraction from your main projects!!

Ha!  Yup, it’s only taken me a year to paint these eleven minis! Lol

Cheers guys, glad you like them.   Thought I’d have a go at the first unit of Romans to balance it.  Unfortunately I stupidly glued the shields to the minis before painting (see the first pages) but just managed to sort the decals.  With luck, I may have a few done tomorrow night.

Still working on the Romans, but I got distracted trying to work out how many minis I would need to play the game.

For the Romans, I am  doing an Auxiliary Cohors Equitata from the book.

I have to buy a single sprue to finish the three eight figure groups of Auxiliary foot, then buy a pack of aux cavalry and wait for the release of the archers.

For the Germans, the base pack is much larger at forty figures, plus I bought a sprue of Victrix Gallic infantry and a sprue of Warlord barbarians to mix in.  Simply using the plentiful Victrix heads means they all mix in very well, as well as giving me a few additional pose options.

Germans will consist of 1 group of Oathsworn, 3 groups of warriors, 1 group of Foederati (previously in Roman service), one group of javelin throwers and associated leaders.  About 57 minis.

So a bit of painting to do yet…..

But looking like an excellent start :)
Those ‘mob’ bases are very useful, I’ve started using them on other projects as well.

Cheers fella.  Yup, pretty useful for this game at least I suspect.

So, just to balance the books, my first ever painted Romans!

Great brushwork! Especially the lighting effect from the torches.

Cheers bud.  I wanted to try and convey very wary looking Romans, moving cautiously through dark forests…..
