My Swords & Sorcery Project
« on: July 15, 2020, 04:39:16 PM »
Hi Folks.

Recently I've started developing a Swords & Sorcery wargame. It's based off the system I created for Dinoproof, but vastly expanded with a much deeper campaign system.

One thing I've really enjoyed doing is creating cool terrain. Playtesting seems to go so much smoother with some nice terrain to keep me engaged.

Here's a few snaps of what I've been up to.

Testing the Ritual scenario,

Testing the Sorcerers Tower scenario

Testing the Ritual scenario (but indoors!)

Playtesting the Tribal Village

It's a great project because it's inspiring me to paint up the big pile of plastic shame I have, as well as getting a chance to use some fab terrain that's been sitting in my cabinets like the Reaper Bones King Cobra, the Gale Force 9 Huts and the Room 17 Tenfold Dungeon prototypes I was lucky enough to snag.

Hope you like what you see, and if you're interesting in following along with the development, I'd be happy to keep posting here.

Great looking games.
They have a strong Conan vibe, especially the photos of the 1st two scenarios.

Agree about the Conan comment.

I enjoyed all the terrain! I liked the Cobra Temple best though.

Looks great! I especially like the use of all the Conan stuff - does the Tower of the Elephant stand up to use pretty well?

Thanks folks. Once I nail down everything, I'll go into the rules a little more detailed, but the core mechanics is what I used in Dinoproof, although vastly expanded with spells, mercenaries, commanding abilities etc. It's also solo, competitive and co-op from the ground up due to the way the AI monsters are added to the game. I'd rather work on a game that has these elements built in rather than retrofitting them, even if it takes a little more time in development.

It's got a strong Conan feel, in fact, very much inspired by 80s S&S movies like Conan, Hawk the Slayer, Sword & the Sorcerer, Beastmaster etc etc, so I'm glad that that came across.

The core mechanics are pretty much there. Now is the harder task of making an interesting campaign system. So far it's bordering into RPG territory, but I think it'll appeal to gamers who want a strong narrative game.

Yeah the tower is fab, it's pretty strong card stock, so I can dump a load of minis on top of it. It's the same with the other Tenfold stuff. The temple base is Tenfold and that Reaper Bones Cobra statue is pretty heavy after I based it on a wooden plinth, so it takes to use really well.

Without wanting to sound like a sales man, The Tenfold boxes are fab and they're an excellent storage solution, currently storing all the card decks from the Blood Bowl team packs I'll likely never use. As a lazy gamer, they're great for setting up a table within minutes too. I'm looking forward to seeing what I can do with the other sets when they arrive.

Thanks folks.

The temple is from Room 17. It's their Tenfold Dungeon line that's soon to be released.

Wow! Great stuff you have there! I have been noodling around with a Sword and Sorcery Bronze Age idea, and the terrain is very inspirational!
