British Auxiliary Legion for the First Carlist War
« on: July 31, 2020, 10:48:43 AM »
I'm doing the First Carlist War in 18mm.  The figures are 18mm from Capitan and QRF.   These are part of my collection of the British Auxiliary Legion (BAL).

I'm waiting to add command figures and a rocket battery.  I’m hoping they will become available this month.

I will be using Field of Battle3 for the First Carlist War and have included some BAL stat’s for that game.

There is more to see by clicking the link.

Very nice indeed, I have just picked up Perrys rocket battery, but not to use in Spain.

Thank you both.

There's something about rocket batteries that makes you want one.  I'm hoping QRF will release one next week.

Well, no rocket battery this month from QRF.  On the plus side they are releasing a French Foreign Legion gun crew.  That means I can finish off that contingent next.

The French are my favourite contingent in this war, you have to feel for a part of the French army whih was literally sold to the Spanish govornment and then abonded pretty much with out pay or much in the way of supplies for several years. Its not wonder so many deserted they could form their own Carlist battalion.

They were pretty formidable too.  A lot of the French Lancers were Poles apparently.  The final clash between the Carlist FFL and their former comrades seems to have been exceptionally brutal.

I read that, pretty much wiped each other out. I may have my figures wrong but the French "sold" the legion to Spain at 3,500 men and after a year or so sent another 1,500 or so reinforcements, when they finally returned to France after peace was signed only 500 or so remained.

That's very interesting.  So far as I know and it my not be very far, one regiment of Lancers, supporting artillery and how many battalions of foot?  I had thought two tho' I couldn't tell you why I think that.

They started with three battalions of foot, death and desertion reduced them over time, by the time they fought their own Carlist deserters they were down to one battalion. I went in the middle with 2 battalions. I dont know if they had enough lancers for a full regiment, I have modelled just a small unit.

Cheers Roger, that's helpful.

I still haven't managed to get my hands on some 15mm FFL Lancers that I like.  It looks like I'll be fielding two battalions and a battery of supporting artillery.

Pretty much what I have in 28mm, A squadron of lancers, two battalions, a skirmish screen and a mountain gun.  Perrys do early and late lancers I went with the early version in shako.

I have just acquired a number of pre painted battalion bags from Mark at Stonewall Figures ( https://www.stonewallfigures.co.uk ).  They are great value.

They are nicely done, although I do touch them up and put a wash and highlight on them.

If you don't see the packs on the webpage just ask Mark and he will happily make up some for you.

Very nice!  :-*

Looking forward to see more troops!

(Wish Pendraken did the Carlist Wars, I'd buy them in a heartbeat.)
