thanks Marco best whishes also for you..
yes of course ill do.....i'll summerise,  pick up the most important data and infos and post here together with the battle maps that i ll find..one of my main sources is "Histoire Militaire de L'Afrique Equatoriale Francaise" published in 1931 ..an enormous volume..relating in detail every battle up to patrol skirmishes in which French Colonial troops (Coloniale/Marine) took part in the French Equatorial Africa...together with the similar volume of the same series on West Africa it's among  the most precious military books i ve in my library..and a bible for wargame scenarios  :) ...i've just to find time to work again on it, translate and scan maps..anyway i like that kind of research even if time consuming cause French Colonial, not only in the much known North Africa fronts, but also in the Subsaharian zones , is my favourite period together with Risorgimento in the South of Italy. The battle of Kousseri, in any case, is not very different from many one side only battles of that fronts..with the French forced to storm native  mud fortifications (Tata) in which the local satraps had took refuge once the French columns arrived..the variety of troops, the  relativly  open space in which the battle took place and , for once, the reaction of the besieged Rabah slaver army that tried a sortie (while their leader , the Emir Rabah, was trying to escape) make this action a little more enjoyable as a potential table top action...

don t worry i'll translate all that's necessary for Kousseri
ça va sans dire that i've not many  problems with French...my love and knowledge of French is certainly not due to school time but in order of priority thanks to:
a) my absolute soft spot and love for French girls in the past
b) my years of playing Handball vs and with French teams
c) my love of French cuisine, culture, litterature (Céline, C. De Laclos ecc..)
d) my love for studying of French military grandeur (Napoléon and Colonial Empire)
 ;) ;)

Great book. Are there any maps in either of the French books for the 1892 campaign against Samori? If so, I would be interested in seeing photos of them. Send me a personal message, then I can send you my email.

Thanks for the information you provided about this battle. I bought the magazines and they are a great source of inspirations for miniatures to use.

The campaign against Rabah is fascinating none the less because the officers of one of the three columns sent against him went completely mad and began carving themselves an empire in Africa. They opened fire on a french colums sent to arrest them and where killed by their senegalese troops the following day.
I have a book of memories of a algerian tirailleur of the saharian colum. They met extremely harsh conditions to reach Rabah's territory and, when they arrived, had no uniforms at all. The writer describe his dress as completely native with a big hat with feathers...a nice conversion project  ;)
"The enemy? His sense of duty was no less than yours, I deem. You wonder what his name is, where he came from. And if he was really evil at heart. What lies or threats led him on this long march from home. If he would not rather have stayed there ... in peace. War will make corpses of us all."
