Normandy with Cigarbox mat.......
« on: July 24, 2020, 08:52:42 AM »
Wanted a 6×4 Normandy inspired table for a playtest and decided to do one loosely based on the terrain around the Bures farm bridge over the River Dives that 6th Airborne blew up on D-Day. Wanted a river as it’s always good for a playtest as they tend to force limits on movement and choice.

It was also a test in an idea in how to use a Cigarbox mat to create a sunken river, all the scenery is drop on items.

Wow! Stunning!

Would you care to explain what you did to create sunken riverbed on a cigarbox mat?

Easier to show you...

Basically used the foam to create the gap and put river boards down into it.

Your assumption its Battlegroup is what's lead you astray...

That is a great idea for the river
The bridge itself is a chunky bit of kit
Where is it from or is it scratch built?

It's an MDF Bailey Bridge from 1/72 Scale Miniatures.

Ok, so you’ve not ‘damaged’ your playing mat by cutting it in half!
It looks really good.
Yeah good idea.

That river is so realistic.
And I'm sure we all want to know what you've been playtesting!

A very effective use of depth for a battle-mat - thanks for sharing the trick. The table looks fantastic. I really think it's the terrain which makes the game more and more - perhaps I'm getting old.
