The following were all made for my D6 Star Wars games many years ago.

Way back when I made these (mostly in the 80s and 90s) I was not too worried about the paint-jobs because I was nearly always modelling in a rush for specific scenarios in my Star Wars and Sci Fi RP campaigns. Some, especially those I thought might only even be used once, were just sprayed grey, being more like 'counters' than models. I only bothered weathering (etc) if a model was to be used regularly, or if I thought it was worth it and had the time and inclination. Many are quite precariously thrown together, and remain very delicate!!!

[1.] Civilian Space Yacht.

Modelling notes:
This kit-bash's body is made from a Space 1999 Hawk model, and the wings are from a Nasa Space Shuttle model. I should perhaps feel bad about this, but I do not!

Campaign Background:
This yacht was used by Imperial aligned politicians and ambassadors. Poorly armed, but that didn't matter as it would be escorted by hyperspace capable fighters if necessary.

...

You should feel TERRIBLE! How COULD you?!?!

Okay, this from a fellow who took an Airwolf kit to try to make a small dropship.  ;D

I did think Space 1999, but it's damn impressive looking to me!

Thanks for sharing!

Doug

The Hawk is upside down, too!

(Original kit)

I'll put a dropship up along the way!

I should, I suppose, show you what I used the other Hawk bits for ...

[2] Archaic Fighter.

Modelling notes:
This was made from the side rockets of a Space 1999 Hawk spaceship (the same model as the body of the yacht above) attached to a plastic kit 'manga style' fighting robot's torso! Never was a fan of Manga. I'm just too boring for Manga, I guess!

Campaign background:
Sienar Fleet Systems Solar Class Starfighter
This is an 'older model' fighter, inferior to X-Wings and Tie Fighters, used by some backwater worlds in their meagre planetary defence patrols.

[3.] Large Utility Crawler

Modelling Notes:
This was made from a large scale tank model kit, with bits added especially the extended front 'cockpit'. The pad was made from one of the interior plastic wheels of a VHS cassette (which helps age its construction!) The pad is removable, with a mind to modelling some other equipment to stick on the top for different scenarios!

Campaign Background:
EXTRA HEAVY INDUSTRIAL UTILITY CRAWLER (Pernic Industries EH Crawler, Mk5, version 2) (Walker Scale)
This has various uses, usually on desert worlds, according to its configuration - mainly what is attached to the top. It could be a crane, an ion cannon, even a cage for a large beast? In this case, it has a special pad for recovered (probably plundered?) repulsor vehicles to allow transportation whilst non-functional.

Equipment: Tractor Platform. The MK5 ‘standard’ version 2, configured to carry a tractor platform. When activated, the platform firmly holds the carried cargo or vehicle in position - a ‘glue effect’ for transport over rough terrain. Personnel are not advised to walk on the platform when activated for health reasons.

Extra Information:
To give an idea of scale, here it is crewed by three 15mm Laserburn 'Red Redemptionists' (aka Sand People / Tusken Raiders) and with a speeder on the pad (I'll be putting the speeder itself up later!)

Note: I have to admit this is up in the top ten of my Star Wars kit-bashes. Great for a heroic skirmish using miniatures.

[4.] Speeder (Scout) Disc

Modelling Notes:
Basically some fiddly bits attached to half a tyre from a plastic model kit.

Campaign Background:
Repulsorlift Scout Disc
These appeared quite often in my campaign. I like the idea of Imperial army soldiers or stormtroopers piloting these simple repulsorcraft whilst standing (although harnessed for safety), almost like riding an animal-mount. Light cavalry! I imagine them zooming along low like Luke’s speeder, with the look of a hovercraft! These are used for scouting, outriding, searching for fugitives, patrolling wide areas, etc.

[5.] Junk Freighter

Modelling Notes:
The ship is called the 'Lynx' because of what it was scratch-built from ...

The bottle illustrated is a a slightly more modern version. The one I used had a hook shaped hanger which you could flick out from a recess in the surface of the bottle, which proved great for putting pipes, plates and other apparently technical gubbins in!

Campaign Background:
Bryntac Class 12 Light Freighter 'The Lynx'
Very much a junk freighter, and not very comfortable. The floor plans show how the galley is also the sleeping area - the beds being recessed into the floor, rising up when necessary, thus meaning that one cramped space was used by everyone for everything, except for actually flying the ship. My PC NR "Mission Teams" were often given such tramp freighters so that they would not draw too much attention in the backwater places they were operating in, although perhaps another reason was that resources were tight and these sort of ships were all that were available.

Deck Plan:
On A4 paper this is 15mm scale - exactly the same size as the actual model, which was intended for 15mm figures. I have no idea how it scales here on the screen but on paper the bed recesses are a bit longer than a human is tall.

You can hopefully see just how basic the bunking arrangements are, with beds that emerge from recesses in the floor. The bridge is not shown (it sits above  the lounge area) the clamber-hatch leads to it. On the model it is the little boxy thing on top at the front!

Thanks.

[6.] Drop Shuttle

Modelling Notes:
This was made froma plug in air freshener!

Campaign Background:
Craft: L KIRD 14
This vessel is utilised by some older bulk freighters. It is a basic ground to orbit light cargo transport, without hyperdrive engines, with pretty minimal facilities for in-system flight. It descends from orbit in a ‘dropping’ manner, thus its name. It is a controlled fall, but it still feels pretty darn frightening to any passengers who have not experienced it before! Those starports which are regularly visited or serviced by such vessels often have specially adapted tractor beams, designed to help drop shuttles get their act together at the ground end of their plummeting flight – to reduce the strain on their engines, which is especially important on high-gravity worlds. Some bulk freighter models use drop shuttles because they were never built for atmospheric entry themselves, although other bulk freighters have been forced to make modifications to carry the shuttle because they no longer meet some flight controllers’ standard performance requirements for permissible down-port docking. Other freighter captains have opted for drop shuttle simply because they themselves don’t trust their hulking rust buckets to make a safe planet fall!

Thanks for the comments. Here's a weird looking one ...

[7.] AT GT (All Terrain Gun Transport) IMPERIAL

Modelling Notes:
It is exactly what it looks like, the legs of some mechanoid kit with two tank turrets mounted on top. I think, for some reason, part of the feet has got lost along the way. Ah well.

Background Notes:
(Experimental version, limited production)
Some designer thought “Hey, we have ATPT, ATST and ATAT, why not something in the middle, ATGT?” and this weird looking design resulted.

Like your ships & the 'eye' you obviously have to spot the potential of bits like Lynx bottles.
