Great War in Africa Project
« on: August 10, 2009, 08:22:22 PM »
Okay... just what I needed... a new project.   :o

I'm pretty much really into Africa right now and after adding a couple units of Germans during the LPL, I decided to go full speed on a "large-ish" project for fighting battles during WWI.

Here is my latest unit... German Askaris by Brigade Games:

The BG Character figures are really nice.  Lots of... character.   lol

Also featured in the photo is the army's mascot - Kaiser the German Shepard.

Overall, I'm shooting for 6 units or so with a couple machine guns, a mounted unit and artillery for both the Germans and the Allies.  I will be working mostly on the Germans for now.

And here is a shot of the entire force so far:

I expect progress to be kinda slow during the summer but should pick up in the fall.

Cheers!

Really like the colours. :-*
A very good start to the project. I will be looking forward to seeing the rest when you get round to it.

I love the standard bearer. The way it curls round makes it look really natural. The dog is lovely as well.

Excellent work, Ray. Very well done, and one of my favorite periods to game. I've got quite a bit of it myself. Now, if we could just convince Brigade to do those Konigsberg Guns, already...

It may be helpful to you, if you are looking for a little more variety, to know that the See Battalion troops from Pulp paint up nicely and mix well with the troops from Brigade, as European members of the Schutztruppe.

You cant bet on it.   ;)

Thanks Doc, I'll be pulling from any company I can to complete the army.  The Pulp Figures look really nice and I'm hoping BG comes through with some Arty.

Thanks for the comments Adam... I finally figured out how to bend a flag!   o_o

Think the reason I decided to go for the army was indeed the colors.  I love the color makeup as well Mac.  Am setting up another Askari unit to paint up next.

Also looking forward to receiving a copy of the book EAST AFRICA by Chris Peers, which I have been informed was posted to me today from Foundry.

Nice work Ray. Love the askari characters.

Will the incredulous Germans be encountering the pink fur-clad lovelies of the white wolf clan?  ;)

God knows what can happen in Africa, mate!   :o

Though the plan is to put them against an Allied force of Brits and Belgians.

Real nice force you have coming along there, Ray. Looking forward to seeing the rest.

One tiny thing: Seebataillon? East Africa? Great War? Afraid not (Western Front and China). Sorry.

Definetely an eye catcher here. Well done, sir. I can only agree with what the other chaps wrote about your little army.

I realize their inclusion is not historically correct.  There maybe a couple units which are not really historically correct (Great War wise) in my project, but in the main, the majority of the units will be true to period.

It's a new era for me, one that I'm not very expert on, though I hope to learn more as I go.

I feel a bit of a heel pointing that out like that. Just wanted to be sure you knew. As long as one knows then there is no problem, as an informed choice can be made about historical strictness.  Now that's out of the way we can get back to admiring your army.
