Good movie.
"Peace" is that brief, glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.

Think you could spice up the campaign by introducing random armed mobs of any voters..... heh

As Mikos Khan mentioned, the movie is Volunteers, an early Tom Hanks comedy flick.    It was set in the 1960's, so it's a few decades out of date, but in a pinch you could adapt John Candy's character to a Pulp/Interwar setting.

Here's the clip (external link to YouTube) if you want to see the relevant scene.   https://youtu.be/6qLzQ4uOvio?t=60

Nothing you wouldn't see on modern campuses nowadays.   I'd recommend the full movie if you want a good laugh.

We have recently added aircraft rules to our Sacramento campaign and to that end here are a few pics of the first air force to make an appearance - the Morslems!

This turn (5) we have several battles.  We hope the players can get the games in while maintaining virus precautions,  Watch this space.  The next battle  report will be the Swiss attack on the Markstein Beverage company.

Last night we had the most recent battle of our campaign - The Battle of the Markstein Brewery.  This was a pretty one sided battle since the attacking Swiss outnumbered the defending Trotskyites (federales) by 2 to 1.  Although the Trotskyites did have the advantage of being on the defensive and fighting from inside a couple of large two story buildings.  The battle began with the Swiss entering from one of the long table edges and quickly occupying several buildings.  From their protected positions they were able to pour an overwhelming amount of fire on the defenders.  However, the Trotskyites did hold on for several turns and managed to cripple the Swiss force's supporting machine gun.  Finally, though the federale commander bowed to the inevitable and made a strategic withdrawal with most of his force intact (although one of his units was almost completely destroyed).

Technically it is the Markstein Beverage company.  It was a soda pop plant.  Markstein is currently (2021) the Sacramento soda and local beer distributor.

The Swiss are seen in their winged helmets.  Captured from the Alhambra theatre after a production of a certain Wagner opera.

Each Armored Car also took some damage.

In campaign news there is still one territory that none of the players have captured.  We have one more battle to play out in this turn 5 and one other territory that is captured without a garrison to defend.  We will be adding the aircraft territories next turn.  The Sutterville Aerodrome and Mather Field.

All territories in the game are actual Sacramento locales.  Some are renamed and many of the structures only exist in photographs.  We are substituting and adapting our game buildings to get as close as possible.

The game was played at Great Escape Games.  In their game room.  We were all temperature checked, wore masks, etc.  I am grateful for the use of their facilities.

For historical reference, the game store is located in the back of a strip mall, built in the 1960s.  In our period, 1933, it was farm land on a numbered county road. Post War the county roads were given names.   Watt, Fulton, Morse, Marconi, Edison, Whitney, Howe, Hurley, Bell, and Northrup.  Do you notice a theme?

THE STREETS OF SACRAMENTO   A Quinn Martin Production.     I'm glad that urban terrain is getting some good use!

I take it that the Brewery was a campaign objective? Or was this a meeting engagement?

The Markstein beverage company was one of the 18 money making territories in the game.  One player had captured it several game turns ago.  Another player took it away from him.

Does your campaign map include outlying areas such as Davis, Woodland, Roseville Auburn, and Folsom Prison? It seems to me that there might be fights over the roads leading into Sacramento for purposes of securing supplies of fuel, food, weapons, and ammunition. And Folsom Prison could be holding some key political prisoners.

The disused and neglected dirt or gravel American River Bike 🚲 Trail, first marked out by the Capital City Wheelmen in the late 19th Century could also be a way to sneak through the city.
