More troops.  Mostly no smock.

A couple of these are from “Raus”, one with an added ppsh.  Have enough for two sections now….still a way to go….

Cheers guys.  Yup, even though painting camo is laborious, I’m enjoying these minis.

Hopefully, I can get the balance of the platoon painted over the next couple of weeks.

I have also ordered some support in the form of tripod mg42, small infantry gun IG18, pak 40 and pak 43.   The latter is Heer but a quick paint job to the trousers and they will easily match in.

For the big game this weekend I will mix in the few I’ve painted and borrow Jamie’s Germans to make up numbers.  Playing big CoC so a chance to use some of my armour!

Some of the guys are coming over for a game.

The British are ad arcing on the time hamlet of Bidford sur Avon with orders to take and hold the crossroads, ensuring a good line of communication for their breakout.

There are reports that Gerry may be present in force……

It’s a double table so 8’ x 6’, and there were four of us playing.

I will do a quick synopsis of the game in a while, but first I want to show some new toys.  Thanks to Jamie for painting the AFV’s, I love ‘em!

This one made into the game, a Jagdpanzer IV

Some great close support in the form of a Brumbar.

And another panzer II!  This picture can’t do it credit.  I will ask Jamie to put up his own pics of the tank…especially as he painted the insides!!!

Less a battle report (Us Brits got spanked, twice!!!)
more some eye candy.
First the players:-
Digits (Our genial host) & Vodkafan, both vicious Boch.
Flatpack & myself, has.been, the noble British.

The scene starts quietly enough with the morning mist
settling over the village, & no sign of the war.

The mist starts to clear & the farm starts to stir.
The clank, clank, clank of a King-Tiger scares
the British who are due to advance.
It is really the farmer trying to start his rusty
old tractor, but it sets the trend for the attacks.
(Really Digits just wanted to show off his new,
painted by Private Buzz, toy. Nothing to do with
the game, but most definitely 'Eye candy')

The deployment jostling phase.
Brits do get a fair way across the table,
but as it turns out the Germans were
dug in at the buildings. As has been discussed
on LAF crossing open ground, against opposition
who are in hard cover, is near to impossible.

Opening moves do not end well for a British tank crew.

First game lost, or according to the Wyrd Sisters
in Shakespeare's Macbeth, 'When battle's both
lost and won'. We move on to the very important
business of the day, to wit Sausage Butties, then
we figured enough time for a second game, (which
we Brits also lost.)
It started better, we successfully laid smoke, survived
an ambush shot from a concealed  German anti-tank
gun, and even caused its crew to break & run, then...
Digits ended the turn (= smoke removed) and managed
to keep rolling double sixes for activation (each time that
gave him another turn) He opened up on the British Inf,
now caught out in the open, then again, then again...
well you get the picture. The rest of us had to leave,
our time was up. For all I know Digits is still rolling double
sixes, caught in his own wonderful version of groundhog day.
To add insult to injury Vodkafan's Pz-Jager successfully hit
& then blew up the out-classed armoured car. When it
exploded it also hit a section of infantry hiding nearby.
Dicing to see if the casualty was the 'leader', not only
was it, but he was ...dead!!!
Best not mention that my dice rolling for risk to officers
this day meant the casualty rate amongst British officers
rivalled the first day of the Somme.

A few pictures to finish off.
Must however offer thanks to:-

Digits, for setting it all up & umpiring (despite playing
as a German he often gave us poor Brits helpful advice)
and providing top class sausages. Poor lad had bust a gut
to build a barbeque, only for the weather to rule out
using it.

Flatpack, for putting up with my horrendous dice throws
and for getting us there when sat-nav lead us to a field!
The perils of Digits living on a very new estate.

Vodkafan, for not once gloating at us poor 'Tommies'.

Wonderful scenery, troops, vehicles & scoff.
Lots of laughs too. We got to 'Throw dice & blow
things up'. What more could we ask for?

Yes, hats off to the brave and plucky Brits…… ;)

To be fair, the first game, especially being big CoC and the guys first for a while, was more of a learning curve.

I actually thought that big CoC would last longer to play out…..but in reality, with more things getting hit all the time, especially today, officers, the morale starts getting sapped quite quickly!  So yes, a second game was in the offing and as Pete said, the Brits started well, with armour hitting and killing some of the dug in Germans, and routing the pak40 crew after killing its officer.

Both games used the same forces and to be fair, to save time, we repeated the same jump off points.

Brits being the attacker had superiority in numbers, with a squadron of Cromwells led by a firefly, the Humber car, and a swollen platoon.

The panzer grenadiers were joined by a jgdpanzer and a STuG, with a pk 40.

Dice rolling definitely defined this one.  As Pete says, I seemed to be unable to throw anything but double six for an awful long time which turned around our fortunes and slowly drained their morale.

Great sports everyone!

The highlight for me as mentioned above was James taking out the Humber after two failed attempts with his Jagdpanzer.  Blowing it up, only Pete could inflict a straight kill on the senior officer standing too close to it!  Priceless.

Enjoyed myself.
