Re: CoC - The Ardennes & Normandy - Painting Fallschirmjager?
« Reply #212 on: November 22, 2020, 07:51:15 PM »
So, I think I mentioned earlier that we will also be looking to the battle in Normandy.  After much head scratching, I have decided not to do more SS, but I am fascinated by the role of the Fallschirmjager.  I want to do these to represent either Fjr. 6 “The Lions of Carentan” or Fjr. 9 as I have a few books around the fighting in Saint Lo.

I am also gathering a few Panthers (that Jamie is painting for me) and I will be using these as Panzer Lehr, so I may do a few troops for that too.

For the paratroops, I will be mainly using Artisan miniatures with support options  from Warlord.

However, I need to find good paint guides for the Fallschirmjager.  Mostly what I’ve seen represent earlier in the war.  Any suggestions welcome.

These are all great thanks..I have a sneaky my scheme will be a mix of elements from these.  That last in particular being gw paints.... I’m trying to use less when it comes to ww2 uniforms as I tend to find them a little shiny.  However, some useful camo tips etc.

Thanks all.

Well I’ve amassed the minis I need for the Fallschirmjager, 80% from Artizan and a few support options from Warlord....snipers, flame thrower, tripod mounted MG42, PaK40 and a recoiless gun.

There are not enough unique  mmg teams available at Artizan  (they have 4) so I also have a plastic sprue from warlord and there are a couple on there I think so I will make those up and mix them in.  Like the SS, I want every mini to be a unique one.

There are a few too many Artizan minis with MP40’s or pistols than I need, so I may tinker with a couple....

I know that strictly speaking, the recoiless 10.5 probably didn’t see much (if any)  action in Normandy, but it’s characterful and we will just have to agree a “count as” unless I can find CoC stats for it.

We are not in a rush for Normandy as to be fair, we have a significant Ardennes offensive to work our way through.  However, it would be good to slowly get them done as we want to expand to Big CoC games with friends.  With that in mind, Jamie is already painting up some Panzer Lehr tanks for me.  Hopefully, our chums will have some 28mm of their own too.

Anyway, I shall start cleaning them up and basing them shortly.

Sounds like an excellent collection
May I ask where you got the 10.5 cm recoilless from?
Might be interested in one of them myself.
AFAIK they fought mainly in Russia and Finland though maybe Italy too?

From Warlord mate

https://store.warlordgames.com/collections/german-fallschirmjager/products/fallschirmjager-10-5cm-lg40-1-recoilless-artillery-1943-45?variant=31469048758352

Been looking at Victory Force minis.  They look a little taller than the Artizan...but so long as I only use a couple, they can easily just pass for tall chaps!

Does anyone know of a UK supplier by any chance?
