Buying back into Warhammer 40K
« on: August 24, 2020, 05:28:12 AM »
In this post, I talk about my journey back into Warhammer 40,000 and why I chose the route that I did. These are my first steps back into the system after many years away.

I haven't played 40k since 3rd edition, and like you, decided to jump back in with 9th. Those starter sets are just too hard to resist! I got myself the Command starter, but it will take me a while to put it all together, as I have a lot of other projects on the go. I've also watched a couple of 9th edition battle reports by Guerilla Miniature Games to get a feel for how the new edition plays, and - hoo boy - it's completely different to 3rd edition! Gonna take me a while to get my head around how the game works now.

Lol EssarD. I am also a fan of Guerrilla Miniature Games. The rules do look a lot different. I just painted up my first three Primaris Space Marines. How goes your projects?

I'm actually in the midst of painting up the contents from the 2nd ed 40k box, with the intention of playing some games using those rules. That was my entry to the hobby, and I have much nostalgia for it. However, I do intent to paint up the models from the 9th ed Command starter too and play through the included scenarios to help get a feel for how the new edition plays.

I mentioned on another thread that I've now watched a few battle reports of 9th edition by GMG, and I must admit I've lost some interest in it. Seems like so much detail is gone, and it's people just throwing handfuls of dice at each other with endless rerolls. But I'll see how I feel after I've played a few games!
