Now I Remember Why I Fell in Love with Napoleonics!
« on: August 24, 2020, 09:23:18 PM »
I can vividly remembering pouring over the battle report and pictures of the early Napoleonics wargames books by Quarrie and Grant and how those fuzzy black and white images fired my imagination. Forty years later I am finally on the cusp of reporting on a similar battle. The Board is set and the last of the troops are ready for action.

Here is my last blogpost detailing the addition of the 95th and some artillery for the British:

And then a few teaser pics of the upcoming action:

Love the traditional toy soldier look of the bases and trees. Agreed every wargamer should try Napoleonics at least once.

Looks excellent does that. It was only recently I replaced my Bellona vacform walls from back in the day, wish I hadn't now!

I hear you!  Finding that many old Merit trees was not an inexpensive proposition these days!

Super looking table, can't wait to see the game when it happens. The Rifles are great, they look brilliant. :)

Thanks Jambo!  That much dark green was actually fairly painful, as one of the appeals of the Napoleonic period is all of the bright color combinations on the uniforms!

In another forum it was commented there there appears to be a good bit of room for maneuver.  One interesting point is the apparent room for maneuver at Rollica.  Rollica was not a huge battle, but this field of battle and the troops are all scaled to represent the area they would have actually covered (depth of formation is perhaps slightly over represented).  As can be seen they were not crammed in with no room for maneuver.  The battlefield represents an area a bit over a mile in length over which the French had spread a mere 5 battalions.

Very nice. The gun mounted on a triangular base is tells a tale of bygone days.
Below is a link to my blog. It's the place where I write uninteresting things about little toy soldiers. I do this because I refuse to grow up and behave like an adult.
