Sources for Investigator Types?
« on: August 12, 2009, 02:23:28 AM »
Hello, everyone -

I recently received my copy of "Strange Aeons", and let me tell you - it's a beautiful production, a very nice piece of work, and I can't -wait- to get playing it.

I had a conversation with my significant other last night (as I've mentioned elsewhere, she's also a very active wargamer), and we came onto the subject of sources for various "investigator" types. I came up with a short list of possible sources, but I know there are probably others out there. Anybody care to add any to the list, or have I covered them all?

Anglian, Artizan, Black Army (my own, albeit not released yet), Black Cat, Brigade Games, Copplestone, Mirliton (? Not sure if they have re-released the investigators from Grenadier yet), Pulp, RAFM, and of course Uncle Mike's Worldwide. Am I missing anyone? Maybe a smaller company I'm just not aware of? Always wanting to learn of new sources since I like a lot of diversity in my troop types.

-Doc

I think there are a number of Hasslefree that would work - Ray and Ken are non-descript enough to work.

I'm curious as to how it plays.  Any chance you can bring it Thursday?

You have forgotten one or two

Dixon (gangster range)
em4 (lovely pre-painted sets of investigators)
Askarii (a few French characters and Egyptians)
Obelisk (their Tong Wars figures are beautiful)
West Wind (spectacular and extensive gothic horror range)
Blue Moon (Plenty of gangsters and G-men)
Old Glory (some great African explorers and war correspondents)

I'll restrict myself and keep mum about 'long out of production' ranges.

Chick

Mike -

Not a problem. I'll make sure you get them:) Totally spaced the Chronoscope line. Thanks for the reminder.

Chick -

You're right on those. Although some of them I avoided because I thought they were either out of period or heavier on monsters than inspector types. I like the Tong range particularly, as the Chinatown civilians would work pretty well with my Shanghai range.

Baldrick -

I'll bring it Thursday, no problem.

Nobody mentioned Foundry yet?
And Black Scorpion has some nice miniatures in their Tombstone setting to represent Big Game Hunters, bounty hunters, etc. Not professory investigators but they make nice henchmen and hired guns.

Chicklewis mentioned our sets of Investigators in the painted range. These are currently out-of-stock but the figures from them are now available unpainted along with a few others.

See them here:

I wonder about these - the unpainted ones - in terms of size/scale and how they match up to other ranges?  And what is the "history" of the Dunwich figures?  I might like to paint some.   :)

I've got the guy in the cap, smoking a pipe with the broken shottie under his arm, and I think he fits very nicely with my Gentlemen with Sporting Guns from Ironclad. Maybe ever so slightly chunkier as he's a lot older (I think) but a nice figure.

Once based and painted I'd have no qualms mixing him with Ironclad, Copplestone, Foundry etc.

Thanks.  Think I'll buy some when I start painting again.   :)

They are 25mm for what that's worth. I'd say they slighter than many current ranges but not necessarily out of place with them; as is often said, not all people are the same size.

History? Well, they were designed for and produced by Metal Magic in Germany 15 or so years ago. We purchased the range from them along with Spacelords. Very characterful little figures...
