Battle of Blore Heath - Livery and Standard help please

Can anyone help with livery colours, standard etc for John Sutton 1st baron Dudley at Blore Heath (He was second in command for Royalists after Audley). Would he have had his own livery colours? I’m pretty sure if he did have a standard the answer is ‘god knows’ but has anyone had a sensible stab or at least done a livery banner? I’ve seen the green lion on Yellow. That’s all I’ve really found so far.

Have you checked the Standards, Badges and Livery Colours from Freezywater Publications available from the Lance and Longbow Society?

It's a the booklet which is pretty cheap. I've got the it and it would normally be close at hand but it's not in my possession at present and I am 'shielding' so can't retrieve it at the mo'.

I’ve been looking at doing Blore Heath as well and found Dudley to be a little confusing.

The Freezywater publications describe his badge as
“A grating of 3 traverse bars and 4 vertical bars Or”.

and his arms as:
“Quarterly 1&4 Or 2 lions passant regardant Azure. 2&3 Argent, a cross flory Azure”

Google searches throw up the green lion on yellow but seem to attribute it to various members of the Sutton family, including John. I’ll have a look around my other ref material later today and see if I’ve got anything better.

Thanks a lot both - I do have the Freezywater - and thanks I didn’t think he was in there! But I after reading these I see he is. The banner of a lion on Or is on the Battle of Blore Heath Website. But no mention of livery Colours or any kind of larger standard.

That’s very useful, thanks.

My other sources (a bunch of Slingshot articles) don’t have any mention of Dudley’s livery or banner, despite good info on a lot of other Lords and robbers of the time.  Maybe he just wasn’t that popular
