My latest sculpts --robots, spacemen, and aliens
« on: August 12, 2009, 01:47:56 PM »
Hi Everyone:

It's been a while since I've sculpted anything new, but I had a whirlwind month of sculpting in July. I came up with a lot of cool new sculpts for my 32mm Retro Raygun range:

The dreaded Aquaclops (a 75mm resin and metal beastie):

Dr. Zahn and his trusty robot companion Simon-6:

Two Galacteer troopers with Atomic Bazookas:

My tentacled aliens, the Slishians, have been poor sellers, so I decided they needed big freakin' guns.  Here's my new Slishian trooper with death ray:

These 32mm miniatures will be for sale this week at Gen Con and will be available for sale from the Hydra Miniatures website in September or October.  I hope to have a few new surprises cast up soon.

Sincerely,
Matt Beauchamp

The Aquacyclops is a work of genius, and I salute you for it.

Sigh, another alien to add to my 1950s alien invasion project. Love the Aquacyclops.  :-*

Once more, I could spend most of my hobby budget with you and not notice I'd done so till I look and there's no money in it.

They are all great (as usual) and the painting is lovely (also as usual) but Simon-6 is my favourite.

I quite like the Slishian figures "look" but I think that you are right.  The basic Slishian that you have available may have been too "basic".

These are all great. I like that your Slishians are more "alien" looking that the generic bipedal type.
Have you given any thought to arachnid or ice looking thingies?

I'm totally feeling the Aquaclops, which is fairly setting neutral.

Its a pity you don't have a UK supplier, as I could have been convinced to part with some cash

Cheers

While I agree with the group that the Aquaclops is tops, it's also nice to see Doctor Zahn in this release- I always feel that the various pulp sci-fi ranges are woefully understocked when it comes to "Dr. Hans Zarkov"-types. Does Dr. Zahn have multiple arm/weapon choices like Ace McGuire or does he just have the one blaster option...?

The Aquaclops is outstanding!! It will go great with the new Killer B Kappas too.

Love the bazooka troopers too. Great work all round.

My tentacled aliens, the Slishians, have been poor sellers, so I decided they needed big freakin' guns.  Here's my new Slishian trooper with death ray:

Oh, crap. There is yet another pull at my extremely limited hobby budget...I have not found any War of the Worlds style martians that I liked to add to my Mars project (the VSF Norwegians, and the Bronze Age Green and Red martians - beautiful sculpts those as well), and I had been eyeing the Slithians to use instead...and now you gave them a big gun. That 'sshhing' sound you hear is money sliding out of my wallet...and the Aquaklops is friggin' gorgeous.

Good job Matt.

Thanks for all the great comments, guys!  I am very pleased with this batch of miniatures--it's one of my best releases to date.  I might get some new figures done in time for the official September release:

- Slishian with death ray (second pose and third face conversion)
- Slishian death ray squad
- Galacteer Sergeant # 2
- Galacteer heavy weapons squad (new sgt., two bazooka troopers, and two
   random troopers)

Also here are some specific replies:

Tom Reed:
I haven't thought much about ice or arachnoid aliens, but they might be good ideas for the future.  I want to finish the Slishians (scientist, elder leader "alpha slish" and a slishian mechanized octopus tank.

Heldrak:
Dr Zahn's hands with gun are separate for casting purposes.  However, I might sculpt two hands holding a scientific device. Maybe a force field projector or a time distortion device.

Again, thanks for all your support.  I've got a lot of great figures that you'll be seeing soon.
