Legionary Slingers and HAIL CEASAR Rules
« on: September 06, 2020, 01:38:19 AM »
Comrades,
I've been on a bit of a roll with these Romans. For something a little different, I've made some of the Warlord Games legionary slingers and have put some thoughts down for how to use them. If you pay with Hail Caesar rules you may find them of interest. All comments welcome - I've not play tested them yet.

Really interesting concept here! I especially like your in-depth description of the rationale, and even what to do with these guys when they're not actually "slinging". Definitely helps a n00b like me!

And, of course, beautiful painting, as always  :D

I like both your rule ideas and the figures.

Very neat!  I have some Legionary slingers in my Early Imperial Romans.  And we had a good discussion here
https://www.thewargameswebsite.com/forums/topic/early-imperial-roman-legionary-slingers/

This Cohort has half of the Legionaries using slings.  I went with them holding their shields partly because I did not have extra figures at that time (I have now) and partly because I thought that they would only be able to discharge one or two slingshot before needing to reform to use pilum and gladius.

Thanks for the kind remarks.

I have slingers with large shields for my Celts just becasue that's how they came. I suspect the scutum is not practical to shoot around but also it would be devilishly difficult to load and shoot with one hand. AT least that's what I imagined. I admit I've never tried it.

They'd probably work in pairs, sling it on their shoulder/back, leave it at the rear or just drop it on the ground until needed, I suppose.
