Newish... My line of Sc-Fi Star wars inspired speeders
« on: September 09, 2020, 01:08:45 AM »
been awhile since I've posted.  Super busy though with a new lineup of 1/48ish Sci-Fi speeders and hover vehicles.

All 3D modeled in Zbrush, and printed to order  :) No more casting and dealing with molds...it's now the future!  Models are pretty much as you see here.  No assembly needed apart from windscreens and roll bars.

Very nice. The cargo vessels are especially good

Agreed on the cargo speeders/skiffs; they're great! 8)

I might be in the market for one, especially the last type (grey) :)
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

I like them, it's just a shame you're in the States, as I suspect p&p would double the cost of the model :(

+1 to that comment, & before anyone asks, I do not have a 3d printer.

Its pricy but I'm tempted.
Shipping to Denmark comes to $22 for 1 speeder, 40 for all the speeders. Clearly bulk is the way to go, but customs the adds $29 + a fee of ~$10 and its... something I'll have to save up for.

Still tempted though :)

Those are excellent. They fit the Star Wars theme quite well.

Thanks.

I just shipped an order to Germany today.  The large Cargo skiff and one speeder.  Cost was $24 to ship, and I was told I had enough space/weight to add anther model for about the same price.

If anyone wanted to place a larger order with their immediate group of friends in a specific location, I'm all for that.  I can even hand off a group discount.  Luckily these are all resin, so they are not as heavy as similar sized kits.

These models are all print to order, so any scale is possible. I can also see if I can hollow any models that are requested and use a lighter resin, to get them to be a better weight for better shipping.

Any consideration towards scaling them down for 15mm?

Sure.  I'm sending a size test through now to see ho it turns out at a few smaller sizes.

Maybe the future of the future is to be able to print in the customers country?

I know a few creators (3D Alien Worlds for example) use others (Don't Create a Scene) - maybe I need to set up a clearing house for suppliers and creators and call in PintBay...

That is what I do here.  I don't have the bandwidth to maintain and repair printers,  let alone a bank of them. I'd rather be sculpting and I have a full plate of my own ideas, as well as pieces for game companies, small parts for miniatures sculptors, and a pile of commissions.  I had an anycubic, but it kept breaking down.

I've partnered with a local expert that has about 8 printers, and a 16cmx16cm mars coming in this weekend.  I'll even be buying another one for him to use.  I buy the resin, he prints about 10 or so at a time so I have some stock.  He's had 3 printers down at one time before...and is constantly printed new parts for the printers, ordering circuit boards and updates.  Not something I really want to deal with.

The usual model is someone just buys the .stl and sends it to someone who can print.  It would be easier to buy direct from the sculptor, and then I order a print at an agreed price and its shipped from the print shop.  Ideally, the shop and the artist have the same printer, so the artist can slice the model and test it.  Then I'd send out the sliced file - less work for the shop, raw model is copy protected as it's sliced!  No mess, no fuss.   Give it about 6 months when the V3 and V4 of these printers are out, and software is updated to really get good prints 90% of the time.  The resin printers are almost there.

If anyone is interested in 15mm or 20mm versions, I think by default I need to print 12 at a time on the plate to fill it (same print time as one). so I may have a pile of these at several scales!

Do you have an idea what the price point would be for 15mm prints? If we get somewhere in the reasonable-ish range I will probably buy one each of the scout, tandem and heavy speeders in 15mm. I assume cost would be no more than half a 28mm scale version?
