Oathmark dwarf infantry is basically a group of iron statues (with some beards and wooden handles), it goes really quick.
You may think that, I could not possibly comment....

^__^

And it is not just Dwarf Infantry.

So instead of finishing off some of the Stargrave figures I just received (or the various Oathmark armies), I have been distracted by another human army for Oathmark.

The inspiration is the Nilfgaard Empire from The Witcher books and television series.

The figure is from the Fireforge Byzantine Spearmen set. https://ultravanillasmurf.blogspot.com/2021/09/fireforge-byzantine-spearmen-and.html

The box will build twenty five Spearmen with options for the early and late Byzantine shields, once I have completed more of the figures, they will receive the later teardrop shaped shields.

The Byzantine Scale armour does look similar to the odd Niflgaard armour from the television series.

First two ranks of spearmen.

One rank of archers.

Your troops look better than that odd armor in the TV series.

Looking forward to seeing paint on these. They really look uniform and professional.

Another figure that has been sitting forlornly for a long time unpainted

Perry plastic with a head that I cannot remember the source.

Definitely assembled during my GOT enthusiasm, he may well be leading an Oathmark army of some sort.

You’ve done a great job as ever but for my part I reckon Perry’s are too small to be compatible with Oathmark and Foundry etc. But this one just about pulls it off. Cos of great paintjob :)

And just to your Byzantine infantry pics are v interesting as the miniatures look better than the painted ones on the website which I’d dismissed. Mmm…

At SELWG Irongate Scenics caught my eye with a 3D printed Ballista.

Two Oathmark Human Infantry for scale.

The bolt is about the same size as an Oathmark Human spear, so some of the unused ones will be the source for ammunition.

Oathmark infantry (probably with some Frostgrave Soldiers bits) will make up the crew.

It is a bit wide for Oathmark - it is about 60mm wide, but that is probably not a major issue.

It does need some clean up and stringing.

It is as if the trees themselves were on the move...

A Crooked Dice Treant will provide my Elf and Elf Aligned (Squirrels?) armies some heavy hitters.

A Nilfgaard spearmen looks on in awe.

I added an additional branch from the Crooked Dice Dead Forest set to the right shoulder/back, there will be a number of these in my army and the branches will alter the silhouette making them look different.

Thanks guys.

The problem with the Perry miniatures (if you can call it a problem) is that they have more realistic proportions.

The knight with the two handed sword is taller than my comparison Oathmark Infantry figure. Partly that is due to the use of a non Perry head (I have been told I used a Warlord Celt head in this example).

Okay not fantasy comparisons, but the figure on the left is an Empress BAOR figure (towards the larger size in 28mm) and the one on the right is an Empress ANZAC figure (Paul Hicks' sculpts are on the smaller size).
The head is from the Wargames Factory Male Survivors set.

I have another fully armoured Perry figure that is topped by a Frostgrave Soldiers II head for a certain "Lioness".

When daylight returns I will try some more comparison photographs (which will make up for my slow painting ^__^).

Inspired by Joseph McCullough's blog post, I bought a box of Fireforge's Almughavars to use with North Star Oathmark Human Infantry arms. The arms are okay, but have short sleeves which are unsuitable for the cold of my Oathmark setting.
Here is a comparison of vanilla Oathmark and the Almughavars.

The shield arm is as supplied, the sword and the bow arms are from the Oathmark Humans set.

Scale and size are funny things, but for my money the Almughavars are the most compatible kits with Oathmark humans, next to most of the Frostgrave range of course.
