Best mounted knights I've seen are by Ebob.He doesn't do many, but they can be assembled in different combinations and are miniature masterpieces - so full of dynamism and looking seriously full of ill intent...

in a similar line to Itchy
how about the Italeri "tournament" set in 1/72nd? - knights, spectators etc. They're nice figures if small compared to 28mm.

I'd go with 54mm too - don't Revell/Italeri do some 1/32nd figures too ?
Otherwise there are a variety of makes that are quite useful, Marx, Timpo, Britains etc, but you might have to hunt around to find good prices.

Schleich do some nice pieces too, but perhaps a little expensive.

On a smaller scale, about 30mm, I've seen some very nice mounted knights in local gift shops. One piece resin castings, about £1 each I think, but only a half-dozen paint schemes.

I would also suggest the Papo figures.  They aren't 54mm, theyre' bigger.  70mm maybe?
Anyway, they are very nice, prepainted very well, and they look cool.  They don't really cost much more either.  $5 I think.
The Papo figures are my favorites since the figures are molded to stand alone or sit mounted.

It it's a seperate game, or a one off, then I'd go with them.

I suppose the Fireforge boxes are a bit too early (and granted not fully heraldic for the tourney stuff...)

The fireforge stuff should cover 13th century so should be fine. Although there's definitely a lack of great helms within the crusader sets. If someone produced a separate set of helms that would sort out the issue.  ;)

Yeah the Teutonic fellas look a bit more the part.  Either way, it'd be a cheap-ish way to get a bunch of jousters on the table...might take some work creating the lances though.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Front Rank miniatures
http://www.frontrank.com/4_lev2_Medieval.asp
They do a wide variety of armour types and range from early 14th century to late 15th in a wide variety of poses including couched lance. The horses also come in a range of armours and poses and they also have no combatants in the range.

Have a word with Simon and Mick at 1st Corps/Kingmaker.They have a full range of figures for jousting including tents, tilt yard, squires, bystanders, standing horses, etc.
I know because I sculpted a fair amount of it.
Also they have been looking for club games to support.I know these items are designed to compliment another project, how ever some items are already in production ranges.
It doesn't hurt to ask .I haven't checked your profile to see where you are in the world. But if your going to the York show ,we will all be there Simon and Mick on the stand and myself most likely at the bar(most new projects start there or later in the day at The Roman Baths,or some where else in the old town.)

Guys, check the dates... the OP was looking for mounted knights 5 years ago - this thread just got brought back from the dead!
I don't suppose he's looking any more  :)

Well aware of time scale ,that said every body has a project sat on the back burner gathering dust.(I'm still trying to finish a norman army I started when Gamesworkshop still produced single mounted norman knights.)Work gets in the way or someone will offer me stupid money for a unit then I'm back to square one!
