Looking good. I have 1940 Germans (Black Tree & Warlord) and French (Crusader & Warlord), and I am seriously contemplating adding 1940 BEF (1st Corps) to the mix.

My only misgivings are that the basic squads aren't that different to the 1944 versions, so it could be a bit 'samey' with my 1944 versions.

That's why I am adding a Home Guard unit and a Naval shore party to my BEF and maybe a Cameron Highlanders section also

The germans are totally different, early war against late war
No camo, Different colour of uniform, Different weapons and that is just the infantry!

Oh I know that, but the squad organisation is very much the same unless you take a PzGren unit with two LMG per squad. I've done my EW Germans with the four squad platoon, but essentially they play very similarly to the my standard LW Heer platoon. As is also the case with the British platoon. They were tactically almost identical in 1940 and 1944.

We tried our first game tonight of chain of command
It was just a trial run with just an infantry platoon each , no supports
The patrol phase did not go well for me, half my jump off points ended up against my table edge
And my brother started the game with two double 6 phases, with none of my troops on the table the Germans
Had free reign to advance across the table
Then my luck changed and I got a Double 6 phase and I got to activate one of my sections and deploy then in a house with a german squad advancing in the open across the road right in front, the squad was reduced to one man who then retreated , in my second phase I deployed a second squad into another house and just about wipe a second German squad
Ran out of time after that but a fun game and the rules were quite easy to pick up but could do with a play sheet
not many pictures WILL POST THEM TOMORROW

Nice looking table and by the sounds of it a very common game where the situation can change dramatically.

I thought long and hard about getting into COC as watching some of the TFL videos it seemed that one side frequently got steamrollered. But then during one of their Oddcasts they discussed ‘dead ground’ and I think I will add that to my future games.

Excellent work, sir.

For the WW1 memorial, you should add some inscriptions on it (names of the deads, name of the town,...), and maybe some flowers around it.
And some verdigris on it could be nice.

But it's for details, and it's really a great addition for a french town.

Thanks
I was thinking of adding a plaque
As for the verdigris I figured that by 1940 the monument wouldn't be that old so no verdigris
I have a few other ideas to add

Lovely stuff.
As to the war memorial, Sgts Mess do/used to do
a packet of poppy wreaths. 20mm, but could still
work in 28mm.  Could drape a Tricolour on it too.

I would strongly suggest reading some of the campaign reports from 'Tiny Hordes' or 'The Tactical Painter'. They are brilliant. And give you a really good insight into how the rules work.
