Thanks Shahbahraz, I have already looked at Tactical Painter’s excellent blog and Tiny Hordes site.

The question of dead ground has come up at various times during club games using other periods so I will experiment with some.

@ gamer Mac - matte board for your buildings? They look good.
Wargamers do it on a table.
YNWA - It is not a badge, it is a family crest

Dead ground is an issue with all WW2 rule sets I have seen, even those that try and cover it.

Real dead ground is very hard to represent in our scale tables.

My approach as terrain is never to scale, (trees and hills too low etc)  is rather than  try and look at every situation with a laser  I do either:
1.) KISS and say no overlooking tress , houses, hills  etc and adjacent to linear terrain for cover when looking from height, or
2.) Decide on a fixed dead zone eg 6" for woods, 4" for walls etc.

I tend to play 1.) mainly as it avoids a lot of 'discussion.'

Cool, and useful if you are caught short in a firefight.

I am a big fan of C of C but I will say not all battles go to plan.

The dead ground is very important, but also is patience. As the defender I often can go a couple of phases and not bring on troops, or at least troops in forward positions until I get a feel for the attackers intentions.

Also as we have all read plenty of battles were a position does get overrun, in C of C, especially the Pint Sized Campaigns (PSC) knowing when to pull back is crucial.

Nice looking table and by the sounds of it a very common game where the situation can change dramatically.

I thought long and hard about getting into COC as watching some of the TFL videos it seemed that one side frequently got steamrollered. But then during one of their Oddcasts they discussed ‘dead ground’ and I think I will add that to my future games.
Regards Jon

No, obviously the helmet should be the same blue as the plastic lid to his left!  lol

Actually I think they look pretty close. Maybe a drybrush of VJ green/grey on the jumpsuit?
TBH I am not sure what shade the early jump helmets would be someone with more knowledge will surely inform you.
