Medieval Italian Buildings in 15mm?!
« on: September 20, 2020, 05:15:03 PM »
I've been casting around for terrain options for a germ of an idea I have, largely thanks to Khurasan's Late C14th range, but it strikes me there seems to be a dearth of terrain in 15mm for Medieval Italy?

I have done a variety of searches and come up with prior discussions on this very subject on a range of fora, plus a few ranges/buildings which were once made but no longer seem available (Miniature Building Authority for example), and Manorhouse Workshop seem to have once had a 15mm fortress for Italy which I can't find for sale any more, etc. etc.

Since a lot of those discussions are from some time ago, I just thought I'd resurrect the question and see if anyone kew of any good options?

There are lots of 'Medieval/Renaissance' options around, generaly half-timebered, but nothing which really looks all that appropriate. JR Miniatures possible, but Magister Militum don't seem to have their 15mm Italian-style buildings available.

Are there any options, or realisitically would I be faced with building my own/getting someone to make them for me?

(A shame I can't find a range in 10mm as extensive as in 15s, as otherwise there are some lovely 10mm buildings about - Pendraken would be a go-to but their Medieval range sadly not wide enough for my needs. Unless I decide to go Hussites instead...)

Any ideas much welcomed!

I'm not familiar with the nuances of medieval Italian vernacular architecture, how far can this set be back-dated?

Probably too late (ie more 16th century) for you but have you checked out "Empires at War"?

Empires at War I have seen yes, but I fear you're right in their being too late.
Likewise the buildings from Thingsfromthebasement just seem not quite the thing. Possibly it's a case of a different paint job needed though.

I'm also less after urban and more rural buildings, granted barns and farmhouses and suchlike can be fairly generic but tjust having a hard time finding anything which really works.

It's a shame Timecast don't do their Italian chapel in 15mm as that would make a nice piece, although the others are all too late.

I've a couple of nice resin builidings left  from an italian manufacturer (not longer in business) I bought for DBA camp many years ago.
I did one and it comes out very nice.
I can send some pictures if interested or have a look here: http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=126820.0

SHQ Miniatures did a nice range of 'Central Southern European' buildings for 15mm which were spot on IMHO. Unfortunately they aren't on their website anymore & are presumably OOP. Eureka used to stock them but haven't for several years.

Yes, the resin ranges that SHQ used to produce seem to have disappeared.

Have you looked at the Spanish/Italian range sold be Hovels and those sold by Magister Militum. They seem to have some interesting pieces.

I'm not sure if these people are still in business (their website still seems to be "live"), but they do/did a range of town buildings and a set of city walls designed for mediaeval Italy.

Yes the mention of those SHQ buildings is annoyingly exactly the issue, ranges just not made any more.

Manorhouse I'm aware of, but I think they did a bunch of 28mm on Kickstarter, and their 15mm seem to have disappeared - can't find them on the website at any rate.

Hovels and Magister Militum yes, I'm just... unsure... about their offerings...
