Warzone 1995(ish) vs 2020
« on: September 21, 2020, 11:39:28 AM »
Way back in the 90s I was bought the Blood Berets game. I'll be honest, I never figured out how the game worked and even now struggled to understand the rule book, but it did come with miniatures, so I was happy.

I found my old copy and dug it out. Back then I'd painted up the Dark Legion minis, seen here. They aren't great minis, and I wasn't a great painter. I didn't even bother with the Blood Berets because even back then I didn't like the look of them.

I decided to give them a 2020 make over. I had some conditions. A) I was to keep the colour scheme I attempted back then. In fact, were possible, I just touched up what I'd originally done. B) don't spend too long on them. they're not the most detailed minis, so just get them done.

And here they are:

With those done, I decided the box set needed completing, so despite the fact these are probably the worst minis I've ever owned, I decided to give the Blood Berets a lick of paint to...And I I don't actually hate them now they're painted!

This was actually pretty enjoyable, and I may even dig out some more of my old Warzone minis. I'm sure I have Siege of the Citadel somewhere!

It's always a pleasure to see some nicely painted Warzone miniatures. :)
I never had the plastic miniature from this Warzone game, but I painted and played to the first, second, UWZ and even WZR editions.
Actually I've collected again many first edition (and some second edition) WZ miniature and I'm painting them.

The problem with the Blood Berets is their weird shoulder pads/armour

Thanks :) I'm going to start on Siege of the Citadel next. I had the board games, but only bits of the wargame.

Yeah, the pads are pretty outrageous. I think their metal counterparts faired better

Hey GMan,

If you're still interested in Warzone, there's a facebook group called Warzone - Mutant Chronicles that still has an active community. If you're interested in playing a game and are UK-based, I'm trying to set up a small player base.

I may actually be on that Facebook group. I'm on a few. Nice to see so many people still playing it. I am indeed UK based, so it'd be nice to get some games in some time...If we're ever allowed out :P

I've started my Siege of the Citadel painting with the Undead Legionnaires. Much better minis than the Blood Berets ones. I prefer this slightly less green skin tone I did for the BB ones, so my plan is to go back and repaint them to match.

I'm nit sure how popular the reboot was. Warzone still has a large-ish cult following. Everyone I know seems to prefer the first edition, which still seems to have players. There is a new version in the works... And thanks :)

Carrying on with my Siege of the Citadel. I'm pleased with my Centurions. The detail on their face was surprisingly detailed.

Nice update and a great project.

Thanks. They're enjoyable minis to paint. I can take my brain out and paint them instead of much more detailed minis, but still end up with a nice finish.
