Thanks Keith and Batty . The tufts are sisal string , cut and glued into place then painted .

Thanks Keith. Having moved house, over a year ago , my son brought me some boxes which he had been storing for me . These were in amongst the boxes , and are  a pleasant surprise to me as I had almost forgotten them .  lol
