Star Wars rebel infantry options?
« on: October 02, 2020, 07:48:29 PM »
All,
     I’m putting together some groups for FfoL Galactic Heroes.  I’m using Reaper Nova Corps troops as imperial forces, and I’ve got a decent assortment of characters, but what are my options for basic rebel infantry?

I haven’t seen them in person, but a few other folks on LAF and other fora have mentioned using the hard plastic “Raumjager” sci-fi infantry released by Wargames Atlantic. It looks like each box comes with some head options and a variety of weapons, so you should be able to make a few Galactic Heroes forces from a box.

I am using Anvil figures for my rebels.

I might even get them painted this weekend.
But then I am also using Anvil for my Storm Troopers.

The blog post for the Martian Orbital Fusiliers inspired me to purchase a platoon of them.   While Anvil no longer sells the pre-sorted sets all the component parts are still available.

These are the Reaper figures I'll be using as imperial troops.

Thanks Williamb.
I found a pack on sale at Dark Sphere last year, and added an additional head sprue (the new head sprue has more heads with closed helms as well).

I also bought a set of Anvil MG42s for some fire support.

Work in progress on the Anvil, with the possibly less than heroic pilot.

Nick, nice find on those Reaper figures.

Hasslefree has a nice line of suitable characters, and their military range might do for rebel forces.

UVS: Those 'snow' troops look great!
 8) 8)

Another good option, for Rebels in cold weather gear, are the 4A Snowtroopers:

I've just ordered a sprue of the Raumjager, along with Warlord plastic Fallschirmjager, late-war grenadiers and SS grenadiers.

I'm interested in the Wargames Atlantic figures, but they look very bulky.  The smocks seem to make them chunky on all models.  If they work, the plan is:

1) Raumjager for male troopers;
2) Warlord Fallschirmjager with Statuesque small heads for female troops;
3) Raumjager with the Shapeways Alien Heads sprue in Imperial Assault scale from Mel Miniatures.

If I don't like the Raumjager:

1) Warlord set for male and female troops.  Possibly the SS plastics, but the Konflikt 47 metals also look good.  I figure that the smocks or zeltbahn they wear will bulk out the differences between male and female figures;
2) Alien heads from the WotC bendy figures.

Weapons will be the Stg-44 assault rifle minus ammo clip (I believe the Rebel A280 rifles used in Empire and Jedi used Stg44 or AR-15 parts), MG-42 machine gun (used for the Imperial DLT-19 heavy blaster in Star Wars).  I like the idea of a Panzerfaust as the kind of crazy thing the Rebels would use.  Couple of weird energy weapons and a sniper rifle.

Maybe modify the helmets a bit too.

Let you know how I get on!

The 4A snow troopers paint up very nicely indeed.
