A couple years back I purchased some Dixon sohei for Ronin, and have never been very happy with them compared to my other figures. Their chunky nature is not my speed, and so I decided to convert up some figs to supplement/replace my Sohei warband (at this point I'll have two sohei buntais I suppose for some inter factional rivalry).
Most of these figures are converted kensei, with one being a converted Wargames Factory/Warlord figure (the mounted sohei). The Naginatas were made from some thin wall brass tube with the tube shapped and flattened to make the blade. This seems to be a very easy and very effective way to make spears that I will have to leverage for other armies (essentially bend the tube to shape, pinch flat with some pliers, cut to size, and then sand down the edges).
The only complaint with the kensei figs is that some of the bits are too fragile. One of the arrows in the archer's quiver was midly bent during packaging, and after straightening it back out the stress cracks were to much and it snapped off during painting.
