Hiding in SMF2
« on: February 27, 2021, 04:21:27 PM »
Hello all.  Proud owner of Super Mission Force 2nd Edition here; excited to get it to the table after letting the rulebook sit way too long on the shelf.

I have only one question: what is a "Hide Check"?  The rules reference a Hide Check twice (Shrinking power and Stygian Darkness special event).  Under the actual "Special Action: Hiding" rules section however, the book states that simply ending movement in cover and using a special action to hide results in hiding.

I have SS4 and couldn't find any reference to a Hide Check in there either.

I think the most obvious answer (and how I intend to play it) is to assign each terrain type a TN difficult for a successful hide attempt.  Out in the open is TN5 or TN6, while a field of tall grass on a moonless night would be TN1 (or maybe TN2 with a plus 1D for the darkness).

Any recommendations/clarifications appreciated.  SMF2 seems like an ultra-tight system and I'm stoked about playing my first game.

Apologies. The rules are a little ambiguous on this. if you're hiding and someone wants to spot you, you make opposed 4D checks.

Shrinking adds to your check if you're the one hiding. Something like Enhanced Senses would add to someone's check trying to spot a model in hiding.

If someone's not actively hiding, just have anyone looking for them make a TN2 check. For a Shrinking model, you can increase this to TN3.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the fast reply Scott; that clears it up!

I've got eight minis recently painted up and when I finish the terrain I'm going to give SMF2 a spin.  Looks like the superhero game I've been looking for.
