Here are some photos of Orhaniye Tabyası, which is an Ottoman fort just south of Kumkale. The model is actually Shore Battery #3 from War Times Journal. The MDF base measures 5 x 10 cm for reference:

Cool. It took me a couple of moments to work out quite what I was looking at, couldn’t quite work out if it was a solid casement or a dugout.

What scale is it, can you add some Turk Gunners, or will they just be tiny alongside the stands of troops?

The model is 3D printed by War Times Journal. I bought the 1:1250 scale version. The gunners would be too tiny. This is a photo of the product on the WTJ website:

Monk, excellent work. Reminds me of my trip to Gallipoli about 10 years ago. Back in the day when we could travel abroad easily!

We were all set to visit Gallipoli this year. Where did you manage to go on your trip?

Robert, it was a "lads" history trip to Turkey. We were actually based in the South near Ephesus, so did many of the Ionian Greek/Persian cities such  as the aforementioned Ephesus, Pergamum and Sardis. We then drove up to Gallipoli stopping at Troy.  We stayed in Canakkale where there is a very good WW1 museum and then had a day on the Gallipoli Peninsula itself. We visited a few forts, beaches and come of the CWGC cemeteries.

If you haven't got it I can recommend "Gallipoli Then and Now" published by "After the Battle".

Sounds like a great trip was had by all. We are going to try again once Covid is sorted... Dear knows when that will be. A Turkish military historian has kindly offered to showcase the peninsula, which I am really looking forward to. Meanwhile I have to make do with reproducing the terrain on a wargames table. Fun but not quite the same.

I forgot to ask, what scale is the Fort? My mates and I have just started gaming WW1 Palestine. 10mm Pendraken probably using Great War Spearhead 2. We could move to Gallipoli.

This version is the 1:1250 scale model. There is a slighter larger version, as well as a whole range of smaller scales down to 1:3000.

Rob, that's great. Very interesting. Unfortunately the links don't seem to work.

By the way on the Gallipoli Peninsula there is a very nice museum in one of the villages. Basically a local has collected battlefield  debris and displays it  in his house.

We do plan a return at some point .We have an Aussie in our gaming group who didn't manage to  negotiate a "leave of absence" with his Mrs.  He still regrets it.

What figures do you use?

When do you think your GWSH2 Gallipoli "supplement will be ready, and how will you make it available?

Simon, the figures are mostly Baccus 6mm. The British and Dominion forces are a mix of the British Middle East, ANZAC and Indian ranges. Some of the British are Irregular Miniatures.

The supplement should be ready in about 3-4 weeks time. It will be available in a range of formats, including my favourite which is the ring-bound hardcopy version. A fully digital version will be available as well though.

The supplement is titled 'Our Sons as Well' and features 2 scenarios from the Balkan Wars that were fought on or near Gallipoli plus all of the landings, the major Ottoman counter-attacks, the Krithia battles, and the Sari Bair campaign.
