Oops!  I guess that comes from being up and reading - and posting - before the sun is up!

I do attend conventions but not in Southern California.  There is one in Clovis near Fresno, GameFest, I've attended a couple of times.  But I did a bit of a cost/benefit analysis and when I realized going to conventions needing hotel accommodations costing roughly $80+ per game played (or ran) that was more than I wanted to pay.  Also, I've settled on rules and periods and my main reason for going to conventions was to try new periods and rules - don't need to do that anymore.

Look forward to seeing your work.  I have Sudan figures tucked away that might get worked on - one day.  French Foreign Legion, however, is approaching completion and fully playable (in 15 mm though - for both Sudan and FFL).

Well, that Naval Brigade sure is a pretty sight.

Thank you! Actually, it’s been over four years work for me too (the whole project, not just the RN contingent) … and it’s ongoing alongside new my Wars of the Roses project.

Cheers

Taking photos of minis is hard.

Here are some beja, observing that Royal Naval contingent from afar.

Only to be run off by some sailors of the landing party a short while later.

This is the second batch of Bluejackets I’ve painted up, wearing sennet hats. I’ve got 3 in the works and about 8 more after that. I’ve also got officers, guns, and mounted officers to go before moving over to the RMLI.

And way more mahdi to paint.

I’ve finished the Naval Brigade detachment. I’ve got some guns to build and paint; a Gatling and a Gardner. The shore parties are done though.

But first I’ll likely get some Mahdist forces done.

I hope to have some photos of the complete force soon.

Here’s a lieutenant, one of the officers available to command the ratings.

Nice!

I gave my officers cuff stripes and curls … tricky to paint, but, like the rating’s collar stripes, I went for an approximation.

Cheers

I thought about that but didn’t have the raised bit to trace on the sleeves. For a lieutenant would it be one stripe? Or one stripe and one curl?

Edit: Google-Fu and a stripe. He’s been a lieutenant less than 8 years.

Well here is the completed landing party. Still figuring out mini photography but this should be good enough for now.

I’ve already started on some Beja riflemen and swordsmen. I’ve also got a test figure for the RMLI on the table.

Thanks for the continued motivation.

A painting test for the next batch of miniatures.

I’ve decided on the RMLI, and have gone with a light grey uniform. I choose to add the red stripe. I inquired with the gentleman who did the Art of Wars plates a few years ago. He provided some photos of the RMLI  wearing a light blue-grey uniform with red stripes. His source was from a historian named Stadden, an expert on the subject I gathered.

I’m sure some will disagree, and I know about the accounts the RMLI were wearing their blue uniforms at some of the battles, but I liked the look so went for it!

Many more to come, as well as more Beja.

Ah! Yes! That stripe!

I saw the Stadden plate too, but I couldn’t find any information confirming that the stripe was worn in theatre. I decided to paint my RMLI CO with the stripe though.

Many kind words, thank you.

I’ve got another sergeant of the RMLI done. I’ve also set aside 34 minis for prepping and basing that will make up the majority of the full RMLI compliment.

To make 40 (two platoons/sections TSATF) I’ll need six more figures. I’ve got 6 infantry shoulder arms but may order a couple more boxes of advancing infantry.
