German cavalry machineguns
« on: December 01, 2020, 02:34:17 PM »
In 1911 the German cavalry received machine guns.
Does some know, how these were transported?
Does some know any pictures showing it?

In fact, I do not know how exactly the German cavalry transported the machine gun 08. But I can imagine that the Germans did it in a similar way as the Austrians. Like you can see on the picture.

To transport mgs and similar weapons on horse-drawn carriages have quite naturally existed since the invention of such weapons, but mainly as support for infantry.

:o :o Interesting question... and very interesting pictures, thank you.

I suppose the MG carried on a horse (on the Austrian picture) was intended for difficult terrain without roads / with muddy roads, in Galicia or the Balkans or the Italian front, probably same harness as for a small mountain gun.
